Not being a bag person, I don't know if Matt & Nat is a brand 'style people' really flock to. Their pricing is so much less than the mid-tier contemporary designers like Marc Jacobs and Tory Burch that it's hard for me to imagine the $600 bag buyer being satisfied with a $200-300 bag no matter how great it looks and functions.
It's an odd niche in terms of price point, is what I'm saying.
Of course as a vegan I absolutely love that someone is doing this, but I'm more of a $50-60 bag buyer, if even that.
And my dream world, every shoe and bag style comes in skin and non-skin versions...
I think I agree with Suasoria, even though I am not a vegan. Seems to me that being cruelty free and environmentally conscious is applaudable, however, I think that the market he is targeting really doesn't care (yet). High fashion consumers are not a group I place parallel to the globally conscious, for the most part anyway...as consumerism contradicts environmentalism in numerous ways.
But he's cool and I think this is awesome, nonetheless, because of the fact that he's ahead of the trend. If his line really becomes more popular, then perhaps we'll see a decline in use of leather for luxury design brands. I don't see this happening soon... but it's a start.
