I've noticed time and again that so many of you have gorgeous shoes in tons of great colors. I go shopping and end up with black, brown, cream, and various flip flops. I have plently of really nice shoes, but each time i try to branch out into color i come home with more black and brown.
PLEASE HELP. should i start with an outfit? should i resign myself to being standard? i just feel like i don't have enough outfits (i know that can't be ture, but....) so go with various color shoes and black and brown just work for me....altho in the spring and summer come color wld be nice....
just buy a shoe in a color you love and post it. We'll come up with outfit ideas for you. It took me a while to get the nerves to buy colored shoes, but get inexpensive ones are "starter shoes" (newport-news.com has some cute ones, order before the end of the month-the prices are going to go up) HTH!
Maybe you could just start by putting together some neutral outfits. It also might be easier to focus on casual clothes. Like jeans and a black top with some cute red flats.
Here are some ideas:
Or maybe to make things easier start with a muted pink which you can use in place of brown and tan shoes:
jestillman- i wish i was like you! everytime i go out to buy shoes (and i usually need basic black, brown or tan stilettos or boots) i come home with GOLD, GREEN, ORANGE, PINK or some other ridiculous color but i just love them and can't stand to be without them, etc.
so then i build around them. pink goes well with greys, browns... my green suede mocs i wear with jeans and bright tops and tie a belt in with all the colors together. you just have to be creative with your choices! i love having fun shoes... and i get lots of compliments on them too!
It is so much easier to buy shoes in neutrals, as they go with almost everything, but some colour is always good- look at your wardrobe, see which colours you wear most and think of a colour to go with that- for me it would be green or blue. Or try shoes with a cute print or pattern!

Accesories maketh the outfit, the outfit maketh the girl
I started buying "wilder" shoes when a friend opened a shoe boutique & shamed me into stop always wearing the same old thing - neutral neutral neutral. I started by finding a colorful pair that i LOVED, then building outfits around my shoes. Now I really do have more muted clothes & punch up outfits with my extensive shoe collection , purses, & accessories. Now my more conservative friends know that I'll always have on some cool shoes that they don't have the nerve to wear & gee I love that!!! Good luck on your quest for your first perfect pair of fun shoes - start inexpensive & HAVE FUN!
