ebay restrictions... bizarre!
Permalink Closed

I am looking for some Finnish WWII/Winter War memorabilia type stuff for my Dad (he's... ah.. a little obsessed with it. But rightly so, he was there as a teen).

Ebay won't let me look at it! I tried to look at a wooden box carved by a soldier and also a vintage book about the winter war. And I get this message:

"Dear User:

Unfortunately, access to this particular category or item has been blocked due to legal restrictions in your home country. Based on our discussions with concerned government agencies and eBay community members, we have taken these steps to reduce the chance of inappropriate items being displayed. Regrettably, in some cases this policy may prevent users from accessing items that do not violate the law. At this time, we are working on less restrictive alternatives. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause you, and we hope you may find other items of interest on eBay.

Thank You."

I think that The Man is blocking me for some reason! This goes higher than eBay! (lol)

Or do you think it's because they have done a filter and there are some, well, weapons in this same category? So maybe the perfectly innocent stuff I am looking at is just part of the sweep? Grr - my Dad would have been so into it.

that is bizarre... hey - I have a Swedish WWII jacket (yes I actually wear it on occasion - it fits perfectly and it's just plain really cool) that I would consider selling... is a bordering country ok?

hey - I just went in and was able to view everything with no error messages... can you go into your eBay preferences and confirm your country of residence is the US?

LOL... I am not sure. Finns can be a bit iffy about Swedes....

You're able to view the list of memoriabilia, or you're able to blick on indiv. items?

I'm able to click on the items (I haven't tried bidding - cause I'm not in the market for winter war stuff) - are you able to get into the item I posted? it seems to me they are reading you as a country other than the US, but I could be wrong...

I am registered in the US (look at any item I am selling)... maybe it is because I block non-US buyers?

Otherwise, it is most certainly The Man.
