i wore my fave new green polo shirt to dinner over the weekend and spilled greasy cheese on the front of it, right at the top where it is the very most noticeable. it sat there for at least 30 min. until i noticed it. anyway, my friend had a shout wipe, so i rubbed it with that and figured it would be gone.
when i woke up the next morning, i noticed it was still there, so i put some baby powder on it (i thought i had heard that that soaks up a grease stain). a day later, i rinsed off the baby powder and soaked the shirt in cold water. then i rubbed in some more stain remover. the damn thing is dry now and the stain is STILL there. what else can i do?
do you think i should take it to the dry cleaners? would they be able to do anything? the shirt is brand new and wasn't cheap, so i hate to just call it a loss.
Girl, I have never had a problem using Tide on every and any stain. Actually, I used a Shout spray bottle to fill it 1/2 water and 1/2 detergent for stain treatment. It even gets out stains that were set from the dryer. If it were me I would apply Tide right on the stain and let it soak in my sink overnight, then wash it normally. I would check again to make sure the stain came out after the wash and if it didn't I would hit the grocery store for those miracle, stain-specific removers (while I left my shirt soaking again with Tide on it) that come in little yellow bottles. I can't remember their brand name. Also, do an internet search on stain removers and you are bound to find something that works.
I agree with lsubatgirl and drew. I have never had a problem getting a stain out with either of those solutions. The actual Shout works well and the Tide is excellent for heavy grease stains.

thanks, girls. i have some oxy-clean stuff, maybe i will try that next. the thing is that the shirt is a saturated bright green, so if i scrub too hard with a stain remover, i'm going to end up with a lovely faded spot. i don't know what to do.
I had a similar stain problem a few months back and one of the ladies on this board suggested a brand of stain remover sold at fabric stores - of course I can't remember the name of it now but it worked great for me. The stain remover comes in different forumulations for different types of stains (ink, grease, dirt, etc) and I used it two times on my knit top (washing in cold and air drying) and the stain is completely gone. I can go home and check on the name of the product if you want. Let me know and good luck!
