Thanks, girls!  Lorelei--I so appreciate your input--this is my first baby and I have no idea what to look for in a bag, so your tips definitely have helped.  Regarding what you said about having two bags, one small and one larger for long trips, what do you think about this one for my "small" bag:

It's VERY different, but I think it could be kind of cool and practical if it's not too small.  I would use it probably to go on walks with the baby around the neighborhood, with the baby in the baby bjorn or other type of carrier.  We live in a really touristy area and there are lots of parades, shops, restaurants and parks, etc. so we're always walking around the neighborhood.  Would this work with a bjorn?

Click on details so you can see the whole thing.  I would get the grey.

Any other opinions on this bag/backpack are also welcome!

I like the sash style bag and I could see using it with a baby sling (I should have bought) like pasted below, but not with a front carrier like a Baby Bjorn...I have a bjorn and I do like it, but it's only good for up to 20 lbs (mine almost 7 months and 18 lbs now) and I actually find it easier to wearily carry my baby in arms on my hip than to mess with the hooks and straps on the bjorn.

Another thing about my diaper bag, it zips closed and it doesn't have a cover flap like a lot of trad. boxy bags, so I can just reach in and fish for whatever I need with one hand.

Think about places you will go with baby and what you will be bringing, usually all I need is diapers, wipes, an outfit, a thin blanket and a cloth diaper for burps.  Add bottle if you aren't an in-the-car breast feeding mom like me.

Thanks, Lorelei, that sling thing looks great!  I don't know if I could wear that sash style bag with it though, even if used on my hip.  What would be the best style of bag for that sling, would a shoulder bag work??  What about a messenger bag?  Thanks and sorry for all the qs!

I don't know actually that any sling or carrier would work well with the sash bag.  But I do really like that sash bag.

Frankly, I am more likely to be walking my baby in a stroller than in my Baby Bjorn, so the issue of the bag working with the carrier doesn't apply to me, but a shoulder bag can't not work with any type of sling, while a sash will always have to cross with one.  And I have found that my shoulder bag is really convenient because I get things out of it with my one free hand if I am holding the baby.

Thanks, Lorelei!  I think I'm getting that sling thing, it's only $30 and I bet I would get some use out of it.

alb, one thing that I thought of about that gray bag from babystyle is that your hubby probably wouldn't have a problem carrying it either.  I think it is semi important for a baby bag to be unisex.  Just in case he has to take the baby to watch the football game while you have brunch with the girls;).

Farrah--I know, I thought of that too.  Although he is getting his own daddy diaper bag - probably the Eddie Bauer diaper backpack for Dad's.  But I think the grey thing would be good to have, in addition to a bigger one of course.  Thanks for your insight!
