what is it about the way madonna looks in these ads that's so weird to me?  granted, she looks great for her age and has a killer body, but there's just something off with her face.  maybe it's her eyebrows -- they're a little bushy in the middle?  is it just me?

I agree and was just thinking about this when I was reading this month's Elle. There is something wrong with her, I think it's her face, maybe her eyes. I don't think Madonna is aging especially well. She's thin but to me she still looks kind of hard and like she could use a good night's rest, like she's had a hard life or something.

Agreed.  She definitely looks hard somehow.  Also I think her hair color in those ads does nothing for her complexion.

there's the famous choice that actresses and models have to make around her age--"ass or face."  i can't remember who introduced that line to the public (too crass for catherine deneuve to have said, but someone like her)--anyway, either you put on a few pounds so that your face looks soft and prettier, or you choose ass and keep your body looking good.

i don't think she looks physically that weird in those photos, just like she is getting older (but i applaud her for doing it in a natural way and i think she looks pretty damn good).  to me, it's just really weird to see her posed in "glam business woman" type settings, with her feet up on a desk, holding a laptop, etc.--it's almost like such a retro-80s idea of the "working mom" and it doesn't seem to go with my personal image of madonna and what she's about.

These ads have been bothering me since I first saw them.  She doesn't look bad and she's aging very well but she's too old to wear her hair that light....it makes her look kind of harsh.  She'd look awesome if she went just a bit darker.

Bumblebee, I don't buy that "natural" thing for one itty-bitty nano-second!  She has had work. Extensively.  I have no doubt.

really?! i don't know--maybe it's just really good work she has had done, because she still looks exactly like herself.  she doesn't have that thing where she is starting to look like a different person like some people do.

i think that the thing for me is that the ads are showing me an older madonna... not the one that i have in my mind. i think she looks older than what i think of her as.

I hate those ads, I think she looks awful.

At this point, I think she is fighting her age too much.  She is trying to look much younger than she is.

I am all about older women having fun w/ what they wear and how they do their hair and makeup.  However, I do think there comes a point where you have to embrace your age to a certain degree.  For example, I think Susan Sarandon looks WAY better than Madonna.  I guess I just think that Madonna is fighting it so much it is making her look worse.

those ads scare me. it's not that she looks bad, it's just that she's so smooth and unlined that it's like she's a vampire or something.

how scary--maybe i have lived in LA for too long.  she looks natural to me.

here's another thing--isn't she a macrobiotic eater? that tends to give one a gray-ish death pallor.

Sorry, but she looks great in person. The ads have her hair too big and too blonde and that is the problem.

I've noticed it too -- something is 'off'. I don't know if she's had some work done, but there's something about her eyes that is just... strange. And it's not only her hair color (though now that you mention it, it could contribute. I thought she had such light hair b/c the Versace chick does...)

I have a feeling those ads were HEAVILY airbrushed.

Meow, ITA! I don't know if anyone has any handy paparazzi shots of Madonna but she is NOT wrinkle-free, by any means. In fact she's getting to look quite craggy in some of the candid shots. Those Versace ads have been airbrushed to hell

Incidentally, I've always liked that business-chick style Madonna does so well. The button down shirt and the well fitted hipster pants - it's simple, but it looks great.

Oh, and it's good to be back! :)

agree 100%. Also, as Mia said, the non-airbrushed paparazzi shots show plenty of wrinkles. I think her face looks its age -- no more, no less -- but the outfits and hair make her look like she's trying too hard.
