so i just checked the washing instructions on my down parka and it says, i swear to god, machine wash warm and tumble dry WITH SEVERAL CLEAN TENNIS BALLS. Is this some bizzarro Lucky joke, or has someone heard of this before?
I have heard of this before! Honestly. I think it is to even out the down so it doesn't get matted and clumpy. I could be way off here, but the whole tennis ball thing rings a bell with me.
Nope, I do that w/ my down vest. Actually, I dry it most of the way normal, then add a single tennis ball. It fluffs it up a bit and evens out the distribution of the down.
I've also heard to do this if you're drying a bunch of towels or jeans. It distributes the heat better, and prevents your stuff from becoming one big, wet clump that's dry on the outside.
yup its true! i just had this discussion with my boyfriend b/c we were washing our down comforter and i said we needed to grab a couple of tennis balls to throw in while it was drying- he thought i was CRAZY until i explained why.
totally makes sense to do it with your down vest! trust us!
