i have decided to slowly start upgrading my wardrobe and since i now spend a bit more time at the gym, i figured it's time to get some good quality, cute and basic gym clothes.
in the winter i normally wear black yoga pants, a sports bra and a solid white or grey soop neck cotton tee shirt or sometimes a tank. i feel like the top of my outfit is okay but not the most flattering option. i'm thinking about buying some workout tanks, such as the ones from lucy or lululemon or nike, but can't find any that i really like that much and i also don't know if i should get ones with a built in bra or not (i'm thinking no). i was in marshalls today trying on a few, but none looked right.
does anyone have any suggestions? what do you like to wear to the gym? i found this as VS today that might work,
but i don't know. i def. don't want to look slutty or like i'm trying to hard. maybe i should just get some fitted cotton tees (the ones i wear now or loose).
I really like the VS one you posted. It's subtly different, and it's pretty without looking like you're trying to be sexy. Personally I don't get anything with a shelf bra in it because the bands never hit me in the right spot. But if they hit you in the right spot, on your ribcage underneath your breasts, I think they could give you an extra bit of support and certainly couldn't hurt as long as you don't use those instead of a sports bra!
BTW if you're upgrading your gym clothes, Figleaves.com is having a buy-1-get-1 sale on shock absorber sports bras

thanks, ttara, for the input! i didn't notice that that vs one had a shelf bra. i've been trying to avoid those tops for the reasons you mentioned (and also they don't offer enough support alone) and the ones with more substantial built in bras look weird one me. it didn't occur to me to wear a sports bra even if the shirt has a shelf bra in it (which is what you're suggesting, right?), so thanks!
oh, it might not have a shelf bra in that VS one specifically....you just said something about a built-in bra so I threw that out there. I didn't mean to confuse you - I don't know if that VS one has a shelf bra or not!
IMO any built-in bra isn't a substitute for a sports bra. Sports bras work hard and they're constructed in very specific ways, and no tops I've ever seen come close to matching a sport bra's support. I probably notice it more because I have a fairly large chest, but even smaller boobs move pretty much during exercise, and personally I do everything I can to slow down the sagging process!

I highly recommend the C9 line by Target. I have about 7 of their Long and Lean tanks and they're great. They're usually $14.99, but Target will often run a sale on them. And they come in a jillion colors.
They have a racerback and no built in bra, but racerback sports bras aren't too hard to find (in fact Target's C9 sports bras are also good).
thanks, girls! ttara - thanks for making that point about the built in bra tanks. that makes sense and i will heed that advice as i have a fairly large chest too and need the support of a real sports bra.
verbana and ncshopper - thanks! i will def. check both target and ON. ncs - are the target tanks cotton or a different material? just curious.
i personally like Lululemon's deep-v bras & tops (b/c I need the help to look like i still have some boobs in a sports bra). I've also been eyeing this site www.athleta.com and wanna order a bunch of stuff, but I haven't been working out consistently. Their stuff is pretty and nice colors - other than black.

ooh i noticed those deep v bras at lululemon the other day. it's good to know they work well, as i thought they were cute. i also have been looking at athleta. both sites have cute stuff - though a bit expensive! thanks!

Yes! I love everything by this line--you should try it!
I was going to suggest Marshall's and TJ Maxx, but you've already done that (I exclusively buy Marshall's and TJ's clearance active wear, but I also work out in the privacy of my basement )
I had not heard of the Target line, maybe I should check those out too. I like a longer top when I'm out running, and these look like they may fit the bill...

thanks again, girls! i'm really looking forward to trying this new target brand. d - i agree with you on buying workout stuff at marshalls. i've gotten almost all of my sports bras and workout pants/yoga pants there - just no immediate luck with tops. i have found really nice stuff - good brands too!
thanks knshdion! i haven't made it to target yet this week but i stopped by a store called dick's sporting goods today and found tons of stuff. i love that store! i found out about it at the gym when i asked someone with a cute workout shirt where she had gotten it.
anyway, they had tons of cute stuff on sale. i bought 3 nike tops on clearance - i love nike workout gear now! of course i am going to have to try the target stuff too though!
