I have a pair of boots similar to these (suede, buckles up side) except mine are wedges:
I like them alot, but I never wear them because they're knee high - I think I would get a more wear out of them if I had them taken down to a height somewhere just above the second buckle, which would make them more pants-friendly.
Has anyone had something like that done before? I'm afraid it will cost as much as a new pair of boots . I can't decide if it would be a relatively easy fix, or if it would be labor intensive (zipper, redoing stitching around top, etc).

Do your boots have all that contrast stitching? Taking out that zipper and re-stitching it looks like a lot of work.
I've never done this before but I can't imagine it being cheap. Unless your boots were really expensive, I'd just try to sell them on eBay and put that towards a more useful pair.
Selling them on ebay is a great idea if they aren't working for you, but I'm curious about why they aren't "pants-friendly?" How do they look under bootcut or wide-leg jeans? Too "workboot?" How about casual skirts with tights or leggings for warmth?
I think suede itself is tough sometimes. It's like corduroy - it says casual and even collegiate/preppy, and that's hard to work into a grown-up woman's wardrobe.
Lynnie - they do have some contrast stitching, though I have to say since I'd be wearing them under pants I wouldn't really care if they redid it all or just sewed the zipper in however.
Su - because of the buckles up the side they're bulky under pants, and uncomfortable because of how tight they are at the top of my calves. Which is also why I can't wear them with skirts - they make my knees look squarshy. I me some texture so I have quite a few pairs of suede shoes - I don't find it hard to work in, personally.
So sad boots - probably off to ebay with 'em .....

Sounds like getting rid of them makes more sense. Taking out the zipper, cutting the top off, restitching, then adding a new zipper will probably cost as much as 2 new pairs.
Are these by any chance the Rebels boots from years ago? If so, I know what you mean - they are definitely bulky under pants. I actually had to get mine repaired twice because I wore them so much and just for fixing splits in the seam it ran between $30-50 so I think the alterations you want would be closer to $100.
CC - they are indeed the Rebels boots, and I'm so sad I haven't used them more because they are such cute boots. Thank you for posting what your repairs cost - it's so hard to judge those kinds of things.
FP - It's your lucky day, as they are in fact as size 7 , and I believe I wore them out of the house less than 5 times total. I'll post a couple pics of them soon!
