Button Down Shirts
Permalink Closed

This is actually a 2 part question, One I need to buy new button down shirts since the surgery, can anyone recommend button down that are a bit more roomy in the chest area but still fitted through the rest of the shirt?

Part 2, what is another option to wear under a suit? I have an interview on Thursday and I have a beautiful black with charcoal grey pinstripe suit and want to look v professional but don't necesarily want to wear a button down. Suggestions?

Thanks!

I can't answer the first question since I've been looking for a shirt like that since high school, but I like to wear simple camisols or fitted tees under my suits, still looks professional but isn't as stuffy as the traditional button-down.

VS has great button downs that are fitted in the middle and give ample chest area, plus they have button downs with stretch so they really move with you.  Let me see if I can find anything...

Here we go, this should fit the bill:

also available in pink and white.

Here is a s/s version (only available in white):

Have you tried Banana Collette?  BTW, good luck with your interview!!!  It is it downtown?  I know you hated commuting to the burbs!!

I just bought one at BR this weekend (see weekend shopping post) I am a 34D and I don't have any problems with them which amazes me.  I also noticed in the mall someone had some with gathering around the boobs which would help out the boob/shirt gaping problem. I can't remember who - limited maybe??

Definetly check out BR.

As for what else to wear I'm not sure your style but I bought some basic shells at Petite Sophisticate (kinda older looking place) but they are nice and a good alternative to the button down. I would wear the button down first though.

I am only a 34C so I can't really tell you the best kind of button down. But I have had GREAT luck with vic. secrets basic button downs.  Espically the french cuff version.  Good luck on your interview. By the way I'd wear the button down for the interview, better to err on the side of stuffy and get the job then to wear something cool and not get the job.  Good luck sweetie and let us know what you choose.

I actually don't wear button-downs in first interviews. For some reason they seem more casual to me than other alternatives. Plus, I like a smoother, sleeker look than tucked-in button-downs give me. I usually go for a silk sweater or s/s shirt (no silky 80s shell though! ). My fave is a red one I have because I think red is a more dynamic color. I don't like anything that might stick out the sleeves of my suit jacket or bulk anywhere also. A silk or cashmere cardigan shell might do the trick nicely. I have a gray cashmere one that looks very nice with a black skirt suit and black pearls. (or white pearls for that matter)

Good luck!

Something more akin to this look is what I prefer (but of course a more formal suit in the first three and different shoes - the last one is actually almost exactly what I would look like on a first interview, but with better shoes):

I recommend Club Monaco for really nice fitting stretchy button downs.
