My clothes don't fit anymore - advice needed
Permalink Closed

As of this week - I am totally busting out of my clothes. I am not huge yet (15 weeks pregnant) but my normal size doesn't fit me any longer.

I have checked: Gap, Old Navy, target, and all the maternity stores - I am not really finding anything I love.

My biggest problem right now is pants. I am thinking of buying a pair of maternity sevens...I know I will wear them all the time...but is it worth $175?

I am also looking for some spring/summer skirts with elastic waistbands - anyone see any?

I would love any help or advice you have to offer as to what to buy - I have my credit card ready to go!

I would check eBay for maternity sevens:

http://search.ebay.com/maternity-seven_W0QQfkrZ1QQfromZR8

and then you could always relist once they no longer fit.  That way it might not even cost you anything if you can sell them for around what you bought them for.  There seems to be a big market for them.  I think it would be worth it.

could you borrow from friends who were pregnant recently? i did that when i was pregnant and it worked out great, i didn't have to spend nearly as much money and then i wasn't left with a ton of clothes that didn't fit me after i had the baby.

other websites to try:

www.japaneseweekend.com       www.apeainthepod.com    www.maternitymall.com

www.mimimaternity.com     www.babystyle.com

jmr.. definitely check target. the liz lange line has clothing that does not have the traditional extra fabric -- all of the bottoms have regular waistbands w/ lots of stretch. my sister is 20 weeks pregnant and bought a few matte jersey skirts that have been working for her.

they also have denim in the line (not as cute as the sevens), but again, worth checking out.

oh, and congratulations!!! :)

this may not be the *best* idea, but it's what i did when i was busting out of my regular clothes but not yet big enough for maternity. i bought a few pair of not so expensive (i did a lot of nordies rack shopping for this) pants/skirts one size larger than my normal size. it got me through those in between months AND they are great for after baby is born when you'll spend some more long weeks being in between normal and maternity.

lynnie's suggestion of checking ebay for maternity sevens is a good one. i had one pair of fancy maternity jeans and i wore them constantly.

congrats and good luck!

Or, if you can't find a pair that is your size (or are worried about fit and no-return policies) you could splurge on the Sevens (after all you are sacrificing your entire body for 9.5 months - you deserve it!), then resell them on Ebay post pregnancy.  Save the receipt since people are a little nutty about authenticity.  Anyway, I would imagine they would have a pretty high (comparatively) resell value considering the scarsity of such an item.

I guess I am trying to talk you into getting the fancy-shmancy jeans. :)

Hey JMR,

Have you checked out Motherhood Maternity?  The prices are really low - I mean you could get three whole outfits for the price of one pair of Sevens.  And considering you'll be wearing them for only a few months quality shouldn't even matter, although for all I know their stuff could be fantastic quality (or not).

Here are a few interesting links:

I think there are a lot of jeans similar (or almost exact) to the Sevens in that link.  You could get something comparable for at least half the moola.

I don't know if you need a cute dress-up dress, but look at this adorable one for only $40

That dress and lots of others are in this link:

With Chris' pregnancy, I did a lot of jersey-type pants

With this one, I have been pretty much going nuts at Old Navy.  Their stuff, I find, is not too "tent-ish".

Liz Lange (target) fits too big... most of my Gap stuff is big too...  Old Navy has the best stuff IMO.

This is some stuff I have from Old Navy:

bunch of camis

(in green and black)

in black in baby blue

in blue in black, grey

Karina - I have tried each and every one of those items on - TWICE! The problem is that it is huge on me everywhere - I am normally about a size 2- and even the old navy xs's are huge on me.

Drew - thanks for the links - I am going to check them out - i'll let you know if I get anything.
