Haven't seen much of the show yet, but I love Kirsten Dunst's dress. She looks gorgeous. Virginia Madsen's dress is the most beautiful color of blue. Penelope Cruz looks amazing too. Rene Zellweger was creeping me out. She looks so severe now.
Natalie looked beautiful, but I wish she'd done either the dress or the hair...with both, she looks a little like an extra from Troy. Renee looked awful, IMO - her hair color is too dark and she couldn't even walk in that dress.
Loved...
-Cate Blanchett and Kirsten Dunst -- my favorites.
Also:
Halle (though I feel like I have seen her wear this kind of dress at least 3-4 times):
Laura Linney (though I *wish* she'd picked a brighter or deeper color - it washes her out)
Kate Winslet - the color is beautiful on her:
Catalina Sandino Moreno:
Maggie Gyllenhaal..quirky but it works.
Didn't like...
-Gwyneth. I don't think the dress fit her well and it was a bad color for her.
-Gisele: though, as someone mentioned, she's gorg. and could get away with a paper sack.
-Charlize:
too much frou-frou for me.
-Salma...mainly disliked the hair.
-Scarlett Johannsen (1995 called...it wants its Prom look back). Just kidding. I've seen her look much better, though.
In general I thought everyone looked pretty boring. No one wore a very unique, fabulous dress, IMO.
I thought Renee Z. looked like she was trying to be a sexy Mrs. Claus. And could Beyonce have worn a few more diamonds during the Phantom of the Opera song!?!?
I really liked what Cate Blanchette and Kirsten Dunst wore. I thought Scarlett looked cute. I feel like she often looks kind of matronly or at least much older than her age at these events. And I normally think Maggie Gylllenhaal looks like a train wreck but she looked really pretty and put together tonight.
Hilary Swank's dress was cool but I really hate when she wears her hair pulled back like that. It makes her look kind of severe, plus she has a really uneven hairline.
I like Gwenyth's dress and she looked really pretty but I agree that the color wasn't good on her and it looked like her boobs were kind of squished.
Other people: Julie Delpy. Ziyi Zhang. I don't like the bottom, but she looked so pretty. Natalia Vodianova. I really like this dress.
My fave was Cate Blanchett. I loved all the sweeping trains this year. Old style hollywood glamour, gotta love it :)
I hated Penelope Cruz' and Selma Hyeck's hair. But their gowns were goregous.
It seemed that black and deep electric blue was "in" this year...I think color looks way better on the red carpet, not a fan of the dark colors for red carpet.
Hillary looked amazing, the style was very fitting for her and the gown just fit like a glove, and it actually looked comfy. Loved it :)
Sandra Oh has such personality and it comes through in everything she wears. IMO she's the classic example of wearing the clothes, not letting the clothes wear you.
I liked the back of Hilary Swank's dress, but thought that from the front, it just looked like she had it on backwards. And did anyone else notice that she needed a bra??
Catalina Sandrino Moreno (sp) looked classy and stunning. Cate Blanchett takes risks but rarely makes a misstep - I loved her yellow dress. And yellow's a hard color to wear.
Kate Winslet has really come into her own, and dresses that amazing figure *so* well.
I'm bored to tears with Halle's and Renee's choices (all the same, all the time) lately. And I usually like Renee, but agree with the posters who said she looked harsh. We get the point about her being able to gain & lose the weight at will...now if she'd gain some more back, she'd look much better.

I think Rene's look has a lot to do with being influenced by her boyfriend of a couple of years, Detroit local Jack White (the red and white thing with black hair is typical White Stripes)

i thought gwenyth looked good. i'm not really a fan, but i think she looked really pretty, and pulled off the nude dress well (well better than others have)
didn't like hilary swank's dress. the back looked good, but i didn't think the front was very flattering. also i as cc said, she really needs to re-think the hair.
i think cate blanchett can do no wrong.
also i'm glad someone finally told maggie g. to stand up straight (or at least straighter than she normally does) it's amazing how much proper posture can improve your overall appearance.
I really liked hilary swank's gown. Star Jones asked Chad Lowe if her helped her into the dress, and he said "no, but i'll help her out of it tonight." -- or something along those lines. It was just so darned cute.
It seemed that Star Jones was speechless (hurrah!) when swank said her gown was by guy laroche. when was the last time a woman had worn the designer on the red carpet? she was stunning.

i thought i was the only one! i feared if i posted that i would get virtual eggs thrown at me. i'm glad at least two other people agreed with me...
i was so thrilled to see cate looking so beautiful - she *looked* like an oscar winner to me - and she was wearing one of my favorite color combinations.
i thought that everyone looked pretty good, but safe. no real faux pas on the read carpet this year. although, did anyone else happen to notice during the pre-show (maybe it was the horrible one on the WB that i was tuned in to) that there was a random woman in the background wearing what looked like a silver lame coat with white fur trim? she was behind where all of the interviews were happening and i couldn't take my eyes off her! i don't mean for this to be offensive, but she looked like the worst stereotype of a mafia wife. i was dying to know who she was!

my faves were blanchett and winslet. they both looked stunning, in colors that were great on them.
i thought gwyneth, natalie p. and kirsten d. were ok but blah.
love beyonce's simple black red-carpet dress, but the onstage choices were a bit questionable (esp. the peacock dress with matching kiwi-eyeshadow in the performance w/the boys choir--yikes!!).
i really liked hillary swank's dress--i think it was really flattering and beautiful on her.
and i was delighted to see emmy rossum's teeth--i don't believe i have ever seen her smile before! i was kind of studying her while she was presenting, and i figured out why i always think she has a smug, bemused type of expression on her face--i think one of her eyebrows is permanently cocked at a weird angle.
