A woman at my daughter's school invited me to a "purse party" at her house. I've heard of these before, but I'm not exactly sure what's usually sold at these. I asked her and she said the lady has some "really nice stuff". Are these usually all knock-offs? Just trying to decide if it's worth my time without outright asking this woman if she will have only cheesy designer knock-offs there.
Yeah, my brother's girlfriend was VERY excited about the coach bag she bought at a purse party. Let me just say that it was the most hideous knock-off I have ever seen.....
I'm not a big "designer purse" person, so if you don't mind that they are just normal purses, it should be okay, but please please please - don't buy knock offs. I try to buy original looking purses so that no one thinks that I think it's a real designer bag.

I don't want to buy any knock-offs. If the "party" is only those, then I'm probably not going. If there are other unique purses there, then maybe.
Could you ask what designers are featured? Maybe that would help. My only reference is cheezy but I remember an article in US that Trista from the Bachelorette was having purse parties for an independent designer that was just cute and preppy, like grosgrain trimmed type fo stuff. I have personally never heard of a "knock off" purse party, but I have never been invited to any purse party.
OMG-My town is crazy about purse parties. There you will find fake LV, Kate Spade, Prada, Coach etc. Maybe even fake Tiffany's jewelry. While most women would be ashamed of buying fake goods that little child slaves make, people in my city think it's a status thing because these fakes often cost $100 and up. It's sick and for some reason I don't have the latest bag because I don't have a fake cherry blosom LV? Gimme a break.....Okay my conclusion is....DON'T GO!!!!!!!!!!
I guess that my point was that the one I attended had original designs by an unknown person, which was ok for me, but my not be ok for some people. There is also just the social aspect of going to something like that, go see friends, eat, drink, be merry, don't buy stuff you don't like! If you are that unsure, either ask about the merchandise or don't go.

Thanks. I'm not going to buy something I don't like.
A few of my friends go to purse parties and they are all fake louis!! My friend is constantly inviting me, but I refuse to carry a fake Louis that is just embarassing!!
Well, I think I'm going to go regardless of what's sold there. I like her and our children are friends, so I don't want to ask her what she's selling and then not go because if it's knockoffs. I'll just attend for the social aspect. Maybe they'll have other stuff there. We'll see. I'm sure I will have a good time regardless of what they sell. I'll let you know, though!

Jen, your town sounds like mine. I was at the grocery store yestreday. I was carring a Kate Spade bag and the check-out lady said "Did you get your purse at a Purse Party?" I "No" and smiled. She then asked where I got it from. I told her my dad got it for me for a present. She kept bugging me, so I told her the Kate Spade store in Boston. She then screamed "You have a real Kate Spade purse!?!?" I thiink I looked at her like she was insane.

That is totally my hometown (i'm from Bay City - you Michigan girls). My mom has never had a bag that cost more than $40 so for her birthday this year (it is on Christmas Eve) my bf and I decided to buy her a Kate Spade bag. It was a red microfiber one - very pretty and pretty fancy for my mom and my blue collar town. She was so happy when she got it.
She decided to take me into her salon to meet the girls that she works with and she showed them her bag. They were all like, "Ooooh that's a good one!! Where did you get it?" She told them that we bought it for her and they asked me where I bought it. I told them the Kate Spade store in Chicago. They about died!! They said to my mom (right in front of me), "how can you accept a purse that cost that much from your daughter?" I kind of snickered and she looked at my bag and said, "the purse she is carrying costs just under $1000, this is just chump change for her."
A couple of weeks later one of the same ladies asked my mom to a purse party and she said they had really cool fake designer bags. My mom told her she wouldn't dare go, "Farrah would kill me if I spent my hard earned money on a fake bag." She's right...I would:). After all, I promised her in a few years when I am making more money I'll get her a Sophia to match mine.
I hate to sound like a snob, but I despise fakes. I just do not see any point in walking around trying to present yourself has having something that you do not. As my bf says, it is showing out. I am really proud that I am at a point in my life that I can afford to buy myself and my mom a nice bag. She has done enough for me to deserve 20 designer bags.
