My little sister is turning 17 the first week of March. I have been getting her gift certificates to Ambercrombie or Hollister for as long as I can remember & this year I'd like to get her an actual gift. They live in rural Louisiana, so the shopping options there are very limited. I'm 32 & surely don't claim to know what items she would consider "to die for" at her age. I have an Off Saks near me (Dallas) & i found some Juicy flip flops - I'd like to spend around $75 & get good mileage out of my money - any suggestions??? HELP. BTW, she does wear tees a lot & flip flops - we do have a Paul Frank store here, which I love, but is that too outdated for her age group?

Where in LA is she from (I might be somewhat helpful)? From my experiences at LSU it doesn't matter where you live the sorority girls all show up in designerish stuff.
How about the Juicy flip flops, Oh Old Navy has some cute flip flops out right now you might want to get 2 pairs of those instead if the Juicy ones are just ok. Or you could do some shopping at Urban for her - the wedge shoes everyone is getting. That stuff is always cool and no one will have it.
The Off Saks at Destin had BCBG stuff for pretty good prices. Maybe a top from there. They also had tons of Miss Sixty jeans. I think Marc Jacobs carried in the store also. That would be a good choice and she'd be able to wear it for a while.
i'm 18 & i usually wear t-shirts & aber type stuff too - i think it's really cool when people get me gifts that i would never buy for myself but go with my style. i think some funky jewelry would be a good idea...maybe chunky wooden bracelets & that type of thing since "boho" is big or whatever & it would go with abercrombie type clothes. or maybe a pair of flats or mocs. and you can never go wrong with gift certificates for things like facials or pedicures cause most 17 year olds wouldn't pay for that themselves.
great ideas, girls, thanks. I just really like the idea of giving her presents, jewelry may be a good option.
Catherine, they live in Ponchatoula, so she's 40-50 miles from BR or NO - there is very little decent shopping anywhere near there, that's why i was thinking more designer stuff that I can find cheaper here - i usually have the opportunity to get things they can't get there. I just moved from BR about 8 months ago after living there for 13 years - i miss it something awful!!!!
She'll also be visiting over the summer, so maybe she can just pick out cool stuff herself - add to my "cool sister" factor. LOL

How about getting her one of those melie bianco hobo purses. They come in many colors for the spring/summer. They are all over ebay for no more than $50.
I'm very close to your sisters age...although I dress different then most highschoolers..most girls at my school are into the coach and D&B bags..or maybe you could just make her a whole little outfit if you have already bought the flip flops I'm sure you could make a really cute outfit for around 75$
Oh so she's not as country-fied as I thought she might be (Ruston, Minden, etc). The shopping idea might be fun but she might be shy about spending your money (not sure how she is). I know if I had had an older sister who wanted to take me shopping I would be shy about spending her money. But if she's not like that then take her to off saks and some other cool stores. If she hasn't ventured down to the Urban Outfitters in New Orleans take her there too. Oh and definetly Sephora!
How about the Juicy flip flops, the purse on ebay, and some urban decay eyeshadow from Sephora? That would be a cool present. You know the makeup options here suck.
You're right about shopping stores over there. I worked in Hammond for a while and that mall sucked. It didn't help any with the christmas shopping.
