In fairness, I have google alerts set up for clients and sometimes they pull up message board posts from four years ago. Sometimes I feel compelled to respond too...just doin' the ol' PR job.
I use Google Alerts, too, and it does pull up some strange stuff. I can see why they wanted to respond, but asking you to remove it? Nah. It's social media. It happens. This is the way the world is now- user-generated content abounds about most businesses and it's not all positive.
I can see why they would want to correct the issue, but they aren't even attempting to correct it at all. The smart thing to do would have been to contact D with an apology and information of why their company is so much better now (unless, of course, it isn't any better.) They had a prime chance to turn their image around and screwed it up.

I totally agree. They should seek the assistance of some marketing and PR professionals.
