Whatever you call them, I need some new ones. I prefer plain white and on the long side if possible. I don't like the ON ones I think they make me look like a box. What is your preffered brand, girls?

Hanes -- I get a boys' L. They're really long... a little sheer, but you can layer 2 of them and it's fine.

I like the Old Navy ones.  They have a really nice neckline.  They do stretch out a bit, though.

EDIT: oops I just realized what ON meant...

I buy the Hanes in a men's large.  They're really long that way.  Sometimes I leave them extra long and kind of bunch it on the bottom (they hit me about mid thigh but I'm only 5'2 with a short torso) and sometimes i cut them so they're a little shorter.  The bottom frays a bit that way, but not enough for the whole shirt to unravel.  They're too big in the armpits and the neck for me to wear alone but they're great under tees.

I may try a different size next time and see how that goes. I'd like to have some that I'd be able to layer and wear alone (like Halleybird said).

I buy mine from Wet Seal. They are thinner (which I like) and dirt cheap and come in a wide range of colors.

I'm with tri sarah tops on this one.  I always wear men's Large under tees because I like them super long.  I won't wear them alone though because the arm holes are HUGE.

I also say try a men's Small, although with multiple washings they seem to keep shrinking after every wash().  But, even though they seem to keep shrinking, I think my Smalls right now still hit about 2-3 inches below the waistband of most of my jeans, I highly recommend trying them.

I'm a big fan of the j crew favorite tank.  I have a few from Old Navy and they just don't hold up well - they have no shape to them after a few washes.  The j crew tanks really hold up well in my experience - I wear them all summer long and they look the same after a lot of washes.  They's also a little longer than the Old Navy ones.

And they come in a million different colors.

I like the jcrew ones too, but i do not love them.  However, I performed an experiment last summer called "The Incredible Shrinking Tank".  I measured tanks from JCrew, the Gap, and Victoria's Secret before and after washings.  I washed them all in cold water and let them hang to dry.  Unfortunately all of them shrunk

The jcrew one shrunk the least (but still ~2 inches!).  The VS one was the worst - I think it shrank something like 4 inches!  I am psycho about having long tanks in the summer, and still have yet to find one that does not let me down

Unfortunately, my C&C tank didn't make it into the experiment, but I must admit that this is my longest tank (after many washings...and I put it in the dryer), but they are too expensive to use as a summer staple tank.

i like the hanes men's ones in small. the only complaint is they shrink (lengthwise) after the first washing, but they're still pretty long. at least longer than my c & c tees. also c & c tanks are great, but as others pointed out a bit pricey to use as an everyday layering tank.

i buy hanes in boys size L.  the fit is great, but not as long as i would like.  i think that the mens ones should be longer, but the problem is that the armholes might be too big.  i'm going to get some next time i am at target and test them out.

I bought a bunch from forever 21 last summer.  I like the way they fit much more than ON's.  Some of them are longer than others though so you have to try on a bunch.

I swear by Volcom tank tops. They wash well without fading. I have them in red, lilac, khaki, black, white, natural and blue. Some of them i have had for 3 years. They still look new and they never loose their shape like old navys and jcrews. They can be found at swell.com under tank tops. They run about $18 a pc.

The Hanes ones do shrink. But they're so ridiculously cheap (and come in 3-packs!) that I don't worry about replacing them every few months. I have tried them from every store I can think of, and none of them are long enough. C&C tanks ARE long enough, but they are kind of big on me, even in XS, so I don't wear them alone.

mischiefandmayhem- have you tried a mens small and then washing it? They shrink the most during the first wash, so it *might* work. If not, you've only wasted like $4

I agree.  They have some cute colors right now and I LOVE the fit.

Do they make Hanes tanks for women? Why does everyone buy the mens if they do?

Nope - they're like the equivalent of a bra for a man.  Women get bras, men get beaters . . . .  I think they make ones for girls, but those would most likely be really short and adorned with flowers and such.

I also like Hanes.  I've found a few @ Ross & Wal-Mart, but they're not as long as Hanes.
