name order on invites?
Permalink Closed

Hi all,

I'm not sure what the order is for names on invitation envelopes. For married couples, I was doing this:

Mr. Jack Pooch
Mrs. Daisy Pooch
123 Main Street
New York, NY 10000

is this correct? Should the woman's name go first? I can't fit it all on one line (Mr. & Mrs. Jack Pooch).
Can anyone help? Thanks!

I'm not sure.  I mean if it won't fit the other way (both on one line) then I think the way you are doing it is fine.  I think it goes Husband then wife but I'm not 100% sure.

Mr. & Mrs. Jack Pooch would be more appropriate.

I know, but like I said, I can't fit it all on one line.

(Starstuff looks at pile of mis-addressed envelopes and begins to weep silently)

starstuff, isn't your wedding in october? why are you addressing envelopes now?

if they are for engagement party invitations or even save the dates, the etiquette rules are usually looser for those types of things, so i wouldn't worry about it. when the time comes for you to address your actual wedding invites, you can use the crane's guidelines then.

no weeping.

I wouldn't worry to much if the envelopes are addressed "wrong". I don't think I would even notice or care how the envelope was addressed if I were receiving an invitation. Don't spend too much time worrying about it.
