I really want this shirt from Old Navy, but it says "dry clean only." Is there any way I could hand wash it? Does anyone have this that has tried anything else?

I have a friend who also ruined a silk shirt by washing it. I also read (in the last issue of Real Simple I think) that when it says Dry Clean Only, it really means you have to dry clean. If it just says Dry Clean, then it's okay to dry clean or use an alternate method of washing.

What exactly happens to the shirt when you hand wash it? And what is the difference b/t 100% washable silk and 100% dry clean only silk? I have this silk top from Wet Seal that is washable, so I thought I could wash an Old Navy silk top too even though the ON one says dry clean only...
I've tried to wash dry clean only stuff and it hasn't really worked out that well for me. It didn't remove the tiny stains on them and it made them look like I had drug them on the ground. I ended up having to bring them to a dry cleaners in the end to get them looking right. If it says dry clean only it means it. Just try to wear it a few times and febreeze inbetween if it picks up a slight smell.
