does anyone have a general guideline? I'm trying not to fall in love with a dress that may be too expensive...

I would say 10% or less, but if it's something that's really important to you, you could cut costs other places to allow more $ for the dress.

I would say between 3-6% you are only wearing it once. (did i just say that)
