I really need to get busy looking for a dress for our May 5 wedding. Our wedding is hugely simple with only about 50 people, on the beach with the reception at a quaint 1920s beach house that we rented for the week.
What do you think of these two dresses? I think that i posted option 2 before but not the option 1. I'm not going for elegance but rather a more festive low-key event.
I'm always scared to post things because i have such different taste than most (so it seems from my previous post) so try and not think so much about your taste but rather the lightness
of our wedding affair (as mentioned above). Also, if you have any other suggestions, i'm open to them.
I have #2 on my list as well! Anyway, I like both dresses, but I would go with #2. If the first one was full length, you could go either way, but I think they are kind of 'eh' unless you're getting married at a courthouse or something. I guess maybe b/c it's short it doesn't really 'feel' like a wedding dress to me?
#1 reads funky/different/offbeat/unconventional
#2 reads elegant/simple/pretty
HTH!

I appreciate your thoughts, truly i do. I think mentally i have already nixed the first one. It might be a bit "cha-cha" for me even though I am a more unconventional, vintagey kind of girl.
I really like #2...I actually ordered it for my wedding, and then they were OOS and I found one I liked better for my ceremony.
I think the one you picked would be great...here are some others in case you want ideas. BCBG, Watters and Nicole Miller make some really cool but nontraditional dresses:

I really love the long J.Crew dress that Starstuff posted. That is the perfect wedding dress. I think it is very simple, but it looks like a wedding dress to me.
Also, don't be afraid to post. It is good to have different opnions.

I actually love the two dresses you posted, Starstuff. I really don't know which one is better since they're both so pretty! If I was forced to choose one, #2!
Sunshinegirl -- #2 (by watters) was my wedding dress and I really liked it. I think you and I have a similar sensibility -- I had a simple wedding and in general the whole wedding industrial complex makes me want to hurl. I got married outside at a little inn in a valley surrounded by mountains (late summer/early fall). We had about 100 guests and the wedding was at 11am, followed by "cocktail hour" (bloody marys/mimosas/beer/wine/appetizers) and then lunch on the inn's veranda, live music.
I was looking for a dress that would be flattering and sufficiently "bridal" but appropriate for a free-spirited and simple, intimate celebration with an informal feel. The guests were still relatively dressed up (lots of women in pretty sundresses and men in suits or jackets and ties), so a long dress was not out of place. Plus, I am fairly petite (5'2") so the proportions of the dress suited me. No veil -- just flowers pinned in my hair. AND -- the price was right -- my wedding wasn't really inexpensive but I am the type who would definitely spend more on a good live band (a necessity for me) than a dress.
Thanks for your comments. I am by no stretch of the imagination a cheapass but i cannot see spending tons of $ on a dress that i'm going to wear once. Quite honestly, the bride always looks like the most amazing person in the room regardless of the cost of her dress.
Some friends of ours got married in October and her dress was gorgeous. She looked amazing. Later she told me that her dress was $4 (yep, that's right) at a vintage/thrift store. I couldnt believe it.
I dont plan on wearing a veil but rather my hair up with flowers - that is all.
