When you wear heel all day long and go to work, and go to the grocery store, and go to the bank, yadda, yadda, yadda.  How the heck do you keep your feet from killing you????  Do you have desk jobs that doesn't require too much walking?  Do you just not go on any long errands?  I'm baffled.  I truly want to know if I am doing something wrong.  I want to be able to wear my heels and not bring a change of shoes (or go home and change) before I run around and live the rest of my life outside of work.  FYI-I teach so I am on my feet ALL day long.  My sister has a theory that if we lost weight our feet could handle all of that and more.  Please enlighten me.

i used to have that problem. make sure they fit properly, and get the ushiony things that stick on behind your heels if they have closed backs. you could also try doing calf excercises... what about them bothers you?

I'd like to know that as well! I see girls on campus wearing heels, and I'm like "How do you walk across this campus and make it to class on time in those heels?!" I could never do it. I can barely wear heels to work where I sit at a desk all day.

If I knew I was going to have to be walking a lot or standing on my feet all day, I wouldn't wear my extra high heels (3-4"). But 2 or so is usually fine for walking - as long as it's not miles and miles. It's really about the shoe. I have some comfy 4"ers and some uncomfortable 1 1/2".

I totally plan my shoes on what activities I will be doing that day. Flats = really active days. Heels = average days with little walking or standing involved, esp. if said heels are stilettos - those are for sundown only!

You're not alone though! I have a friend who can shop all day in super high heels. It's beyond me. My feet are killing me in sneakers after a day of intense shopping!

I have always wondered the same thing, especially when I see 50 year old women working behind the Lancome counter wearing 3 inch heels. When I worked in retail at 18 I was always amazed by them because at less than half their age I am pretty sure I would have passed out after the third hour.

I do wear heels a lot, but I work behind a desk as well. I have a sister that works in brokerage who believes in wearing Isotoner's during meetings with clients (she slips them on and off with ease). When shopping I prefer flats and I throw a good pair in the trunk of my car for any unexpected walking tours. I am big on my feet not hurting and being able to enjoy myself. But I've always wondered how other people do it.

I am one of those people who can wear a high heel and walk around all day and not really be bothered, as long as the shoe is fairly comfortable. Sometimes, my feet do hurt, and then it's all about pretending they don't. I agree about calf exercises - I think the strength of your calves makes a difference.

I wear heels to class all day, and can even run in them if I have to - and I find that it's worth it to spend the extra money on good shoes that won't pinch. Plus I often put the little pads in just for extra cushioning. The only time my feet have ever really hurt is when I wore a pair of flats that were kind of cheap (but really cute). By the end of my last class, they'd drawn blood! Also, generally I'm careful not to wear heels more than three days in a row, so my feet get a break.

I have the same problem!  If I'm going to the mall or grocery store,  I MUST wear flats or my feet kill me after about an hour!  I do usually wear heels to work, but I sit most of the day and usually go straight home after work, so that's not a big deal.  Having a rubber sole helps some, but even in sneakers my feet hurt after 3 hours or so.

I'm a firm believe that when it comes to comfort, you get what you pay for with shoes.  A nice, soft leather shoe, which does tend to be more expensive, will be comfortable a lot longer that other shoes.

I also try to vary my heel height from day to day.  I think that helps a lot.

ummm... no. I don't even weigh 100 pounds and could never wear heels if I had to be on my feet all day. even in "comfortable" heels, the balls of my feet start aching after an while. and having flat feet doesn't help either- I guess I have very little arch support. I don't think there's anything wrong with changing your shoes when you have to run errands after work or during lunch. I think that's very smart. let's face it- as much as we love our heels, they are not great for our backs, no matter how comfortable they might feel on our feet.

I have a desk job so I guess I don't do that much walking, and my feet are usually fine. When I was in college all I wore were flip flops though. I think I just had to train myself to get used to heels, buying comfortable ones always helps. I have a few pairs that are cute but I would never wear for a mall trip.

I have a desk job so that helps out a lot.  Also it all depends on the designer of the shoe and the fit.  I have some that I can stand in all day and others that are just made for sitting.

I'm the weirdo chick who wears 3 1/2 in. heels to campus, can balance a full bookbag and walk all over town in them. But I agree that you have to be really picky about the heels you buy. I usually try to stay away from super-skinny stiletto heels and have an affinity for shoes with rubber bottoms (they feel more like sneakers). Plus they need to fit your feet like a glove. I am not skinny. Last time I checked I was 5' 2.5" and 135 lbs (comprised of way too much bulging calf muscles and the ability to leg press my BF). My calves are VERY strong and can handle just about anything, though, which is probably why I can wear heels for such an extended length of time.

However, I do not wear heels exclusively. The next day after wearing heels, I am wearing flats or sneakers or Uggs or kitten heels (which I can live in all day so long as the shoe is well-made and comfy). I avoid wearing heels two or more days in a row, so I don't wreak too much havoc on my feet.
