For insurance reasons K and I are thinking of secretly eloping or marrying.

I sort of have mixed feelings on this (head vs. heart). It is so much more practical and we could save so much money but I am afraid it is going to take away from the event we are planning in 2006. His parents are on board and my parents are fine with it as long as they are there to see it. I googled las vegas weddings rabbi and found that there is a rabbi who marries people at the MGM Grand. I was thinking we would go and get married exactly one year from our planned wedding date so we have the same anniversary Should we take the plunge?

Any thoughts on this?

You should do what your heart wants to do. Just because you elope not doesn't mean that you can't have the wedding of your dreams one day

We tossed this same idea around for awhile.  It would have made school alot cheaper for him, and it would have helped with car & health insurance.  But I just couldn't do it.  I'd rather wait and do it right - it felt like doing it for the financial aspects made it less special.  But do whatever you want to do - no one else can tell you what's right for you but you.

it depends on how sentimental you are.  if it means a lot to you to have certian people (other than the parents who i think you said would go to vegas) see you get married, then you'll probably regret eloping.

but if that's not an issue, i would say go for it. if you can save money, that's a huge thing.  and if you do it on the same day, then the event you're planning for 2006 can be a 1 yr anniversary party and if you really still wanted to do the whole walking down the aisle thing for everyone else, you could renew your vows then.

i guess you have to think about how you are going to feel about things in the long run -- if waiting worth the money it will cost you?

I like the idea, especially doing it one year from your wedding date so that you have the same anniversary.  If it's what you really want to do, then do it.
