Ugghhh! I am having the hardest time shopping lately. My husband keeps asking me what I want for my birthday and I don't even know what to tell him. I want new things but I can't find anything I love. Where are your current "go to" stores?
I used to be able to find things at Banana Republic but lately I can't find one thing in the store that I want. Ann Taylor and ATL are so awful now-everything looks so matronly. I find things at Anthro that I like but everything I find is not worth the money and I love everything at Jcrew but again, their prices are just too high and ridiculous these days. So where should I look? Does anyone else feel like this?
This isn't the most exciting answer, but I found a few things I really liked at Gap recently. What type of pieces are you looking for specifically? I tend to buy a lot from J Crew, Gap, Uniqlo, and American Apparel, and then vintage; ebay; sales; boutiques for things that are special.
I definitely feel like I'm having a hard time finding things I like. And when I do find things I like, they're so expensive and I have a hard time justifying the purchase. And I live in a style blackhole, so finding decent b&M stores is challenging. I do most of my shopping online or at beach boutiques or city boutiques when I go away for the weekend. Some of my favorite boutiques right now are South Moon Under (they have a website- www.southmoonunder.com), The Islander (no website) and surf shops for casual weekend gear. I also like Urban Outfitters, Bebe, JCrew and Anthropologie. And that's about it. Shopping sucks right now.
I am in the exact same boat and totally agree about Ann Taylor and ATL. However, I still find myself going back to J. Crew...it's just so pretty sometimes!! Other than that, I pick up single items all over - UO, J Crew, Anthro, Target, BR, F21, etc. There is no one store I keep going back to...shopping is pretty crappy right now.
I have been having the hardest time finding anything I like. Everything I see in stores is so unflattering!!
I've been doing a lot of shopping at boutiques recently. I've also found some basics at Gap, BR, American Apparel, and JCrew. In a way it's annoying that everything in stores is so yuck, but I'm also spending less, so that's good.
Whole lotta Gap, to replenish my usual casual attire. They are having a decent year fashion-wise and I haven't seen much better from the other "mall" stores lately.
I can always find at least a few pretty items at Anthropologie.

The Anthropologie sale rack is my best friend right now. I also really like Lucky for jeans and cute tops and hoodies. I used to get a lot of work stuff at ATL, but I agree with other posters - it's super matronly right now and I haven't bought anything there in a while. I've found some really cute dresses at Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus. That said, I feel like I've had to "hunt" a lot more. I'll find a great dress, but it will be after an hour of digging. I get my work basics at BR.
I agree with everyone. I just pop in every single store I pass because there's no store I can count on anymore. I also feel like my style is shifting (or maybe it's just harder to find pretty things now?) so I'll walk into New York and Co, Pac Sun, and Anthro all in the same trip - just hoping one of those places can satisfy me. I feel so lost when I'm shopping now!

I don't have much of a selection where I live and can only fit into teen clothes or true XS, so everything I have is pretty much from AE, Old Navy, or Macy's.
I'm having trouble too. And, even though I'm not having $$-trouble, I feel guilty and uncomfortable spending money on clothes. I talk myself out of almost everything I see, even if it is clothing for work! Actually, I would rather just buy casual clothing, but I feel like I'm at work all the dang time.
JCrew's new arrivals are wholly unappealing, BR is boring, Shopbop is too trendy, Nordstrom is too matronly, everything carried by the Limited falls apart if I so much as breathe on it, Anthro is too costumey for me...waaahhh....
Man! I'm so whiney today. Let's roll with it...
Can someone tell me when we will be able to stop dressing like 5-year-olds dressed as botanical specimens for Halloween?
I am in the same boat as everyone else. I can't seem to find anything I love. I too have just been buying basics at the Gap and Old Navy.
Everything is just too expensive right now, and honestly I don't think the expensive stuff is all that impressive, especially since I can go in the mall and find cheaper similar items.
I am having the hardest time finding cute summer shoes as well.
