Reception Sites
Permalink Closed

My entire life I have wanted to own and run a wedding reception hall. This is just a dream and it is not something I am pursuing at this moment, but i just wanted insight from those who are either already married, getting married, or those just dreaming about the big day. I know what I think is important in a wedding reception site for myself. However, I was just curious what you women think is important when looking for the perfect reception site.

One thing I HATED about most of the reception sites we toured was the horrendous decorating!  The ugly airport/hotel carpet and wallpaper - ack!  It is so hard to find a place that is neutral enough to be able to be decorated as you wish on your day and still have it be beautiful.  It would also be nice to find a place that has both indoor and outdoor facilities.

From my experiences going to weddings and my mom's we both don't like the places that have divided rooms where the cake is in one room, dining spread out between 3 or 3 rooms. The guests get divided up and then you also miss stuff like the cutting of the wedding cake.

I would do a ceremony room and then a seperate room for dining/dancing/cake stuff if you do multiple rooms.

Lmonet, I totally agree with you. The carpet and walls and lighting is usually the ugliest things I have ever seen. Also, like isu said, the division that usually occurs at weddings. My dream is to have a reception site that can accomadate indoor weddings as well as outdoor weddings. I would also like to have a building made out of glass with hardwood floors that can be decorated to the bride and grooms complete desires. I also believe that there needs to be a beautiful view for pictures for those who will be having the ceremony and reception in one place. Ideally I would love a large garden with a beautiful walk way and a manmade waterfall. Lots of green and flowers. Oh the joy I have from thinking about having my own wedding reception site. I just wish I had the ability to draw so I could draw out my dreams.

How about taking pictures of things you like and putting them in a book. Like if you are driving around one day and see a garden or a fountain you like take a picture. That way later on you will at least have some starting ideas.

for outside, gardens/flowers are important.  water features are nice too.  it sounds like you have some good ideas.

inside, i think having a big room with a high ceiling is important.  i hate banquet rooms with low ceilings -- they feel so constricting.  and lots of windows so there is a view of your beautiful gardens.

i just went to a place that had manmade ponds all around it and you walked over a short bridge to get inside.  that was cool.

Thank you ladies. I think I will start taking pictures and cutting out pictures in magazines and forming a scrapbook. I subscribe to a lot of wedding magazines b/c I am always looking for inspiration and hey you never know right? I agree with you e_doli, low ceilings make a place feel cramped and they also make a place lose it's elegance. Keep the ideas coming. This is so much fun... well for me anyway

Ohh I also hate dark walls. My cousins place is awful - it actually I think was a restaurant and the people didn't really do anything to help change the way it looks. You still walk in the door and see a huge bar like at applebee's or chili's. It really reminds me of a bar and grill. Maybe if they had painted the walls a light color or something it would help. Anyways my point is to pick bright happy colors.

I don;t like wedding factories. I like a place that is devoted to you and just you that day it also helps with people wedding hopping. But I think it is just classier

Oh I completely agree with you nyc, I think it is tacky to have more than one wedding, plus this is usually the biggest day in many peoples lives, they deserve personal attention and that is what I would strive for. Thanks for the input.
