URGENT help needed for FRIDAY

Although he has known all week, my BF just informed me of a party at a bar we are supposed to go to tomorrow night.  While it is not a work event, his boss is throwing it...he is still sorta on the fence about it but kinda feels he should go.  I would be totally cool with going...but it is a theme party...and the theme is "Golf Hos and Tennis Bros."  WTF?   I know, I could forgo dressing up, but I don't want to be a spoilsport, so what do I wear?  I do not own a single thing that would work, so I have to buy stuff.  I was thinking a tight polo and a short tennis skirt...but where can I get this?  Should I try Old Navy and Wet Seal, or an actual sports store???  And what should I wear for shoes?

Please help!

I'm surprised there were 34 views of this post and no one had any opinions or advice!

I think you would be best off going to a sporting goods store.  Personally, and because it's for a "costume" I would go to tj maxx and scour the athletic apparel racks (hopefully you have a nearby tj's that has a sporting goods store nearby for back up.)

I do think your idea with the polo and skirt are good, and going with the "ho" theme, heels?  too bad you don't have any high-heeled tennis shoes (I can't believe I just said that...)

I really hope others dress up - I can't imagine seeing you coming down the street in a tennis skirt and heels weirdface personally, I'd take the lower portion of the outfit in a bag and change into it in the bar...

Actually, I'm sorta offended by the party's theme. It would be one thing if it was just some friend's idea of a party, but since this is a work event, I find the idea of "Golf Hos and Tennis Bros" to be incredibly inappropriate. I know this isn't the help you wanted, but I would refuse to go.

Remember Debra Messing in the Wedding Date's outfit for the bachelorette party? I would go that way.

Short tennis skirt, argyle sleeveless top (Jcrew style), knee socks? Shoes, I have no idea on.

I would keep it on the classy side, as it is your boyfriend's work function, even if they are classless enough to ask the girls dress up as hoes.

in jacL's defence, she specifically stated this is not a work event.  it's a private party being thrown by her boyfriend's boss.

Personally, I think some of you are taking the theme a little too seriously.  It's just a party, and I don't think it would have crossed my mind to get upset.  Maybe that's just me, but obviously jacL is comfortable with it.  jacL - I would first make sure w/R that other people are dressing up, so you don't look ridiculous (along the lines of what D said).  I would then wear something like a tight polo, short tennis skirt, and knee high argyle socks.

Personally, I was not excited about the theme but I was not offended at all. I liken the idea to dressing as a "slutty whatever" for Halloween--though I always choose not to do that, a lot of other people do and that is fine with me.

However, I did decide not to dress up. I was on my way to TJMaxx and the sporting goods store next door but stopped at Target first and ended up spending the money on actual workout clothes. It sounds like everyone else will be dressing up so I will stick out but I am okay with that. I am interested to see what everyone else is wearing though.

And actually, his boss is a 27-year-old woman, D! Her and my BF are probably two of the oldest people in his department and they all often go out together. It is her birthday and I know she just wants to have fun.

 My bad. Apparently, I should have scrolled back up one more line when I did actually try to check on that.

I don't know, even given that this is a female boss with a non-work event, I'm still pretty wierded out by it. I just don't know if I like the idea of party. Thinking more about it, I just don't find the theme in general (or any of the other myriad hos and bros type themes) very palatable. The whole idea of women as whores isn't fun.

Eh. I am not offended but I do think its odd for someone who is a boss to have a whorish themed party. I've heard of a lot of "Pimps n hoes" parties but its usually college frat stuff, not adult birthday parties.

Anyways, I guess she sounds like an open minded gal! Have fun!
