weekend in New York - HELP
Permalink Closed

Hello-

I'm going to NY this weekend and pretty much have my outfits planned out but wanted some input from you fashion experts ( :

When going out, I'll be wearing jeans (7's and COH's), what kind of tops or blazers do you guys suggest I wear?  What about shoes?

Also wondering about walking around the city during the day, what do you all suggest for that?

Thanks for all of your help!

Lastly are there any shops that I absolutely can't leave without visiting?  Someone at work mentioned Century 21 - what do you guys think?

Thanks for ALL of your suggestions. ( :

I would make sure your shoes have a rubber sole - If you're going to be walking ALOT I would get some cute sneakers.  As for store recommendations, I would stop into H&M if you don't have one near where you live (cute stuff, AWESOME deals).  In general, NYC tends to be more formal than the west coast so I would err on the side of overdressed instead of underdressed (it screams 'TOURIST').

Century 21 rocks! I also love Henri Bendel! Maybe some cute flats, or some of those cute wedge loafers that I keep seeing here. Tops, I would bring a satin top for night and then a button down or turtleneck for under the blazer for day. I'm jealous. Have fun!

I just got back from a kickin' weekend in nyc so I'm full of useful mistakes not to make!

1) If it's raining, forget about sophisticated. Leave the pretty leather gloves and cool hat at home. Wear durable because yo' sh*t will get messed up! It's dirty there when it rains...

2) For daytime, go for boots (every single fashionable girl in nyc - that I saw - had on some form of cute rainboot or ugg-type boot and even though I hate uggs, I could see how they were useful). Or sneakers - cute ones anyway. Definitely some comfy shoes so you can wear your heels at night.

3) For going out, if you're going anywhere at all cool, I'd skip the jeans and go for something a little dressier. I didn't see anyone in the vip rooms I was in wearing jeans. A silky top and a velvet blazer or fur shrug would be cute. But, if you're doing funkier, punk places, jeans are cool. But go fab-o rock for a top and shoes.

4) When you go out at night, wear shoes you can walk in. Even if you're cabbing it, there's still a lot more walking than you anticipate. And you never know when someone will say, "let's just walk, it's only a couple blocks." What-ever! Some of us have 4" heels on and can't walk a couple blocks without busting it or bleeding immensely.

5) If it's cold, wear a jacket, even if it doesn't go with your outfit. You could stand outside ten minutes looking for a cab and without a jacket, you'll freeze your ass off.

Those are my nyc tips and trust me when I say I learned them all, ALL, the hard way!

Hope you have a blast!

Oh, as for stores, I second H&M if you don't have one near you (I always stock up when I'm there), Bergdorf-Goodman for their fabulous designer shoe selection, The Shop on... I forget where but definitely some cute things, and finally, you absolutely must go to Foley & Corinna. I know you can get some of their stuff online now, but it's really not the same. The store is filled with such yummy goodness that it's almost a travesty not to visit it.
