i've been known to knock marc jacobs. perhaps i even called him a hack as recently as last night. but then i stumbled upon this sweater on the nordstrom site. i actually fell in love with it ages ago and tried to remove all traces of it's beauty from my mind.
but now it's on sale for $178. i have checks totaling $175 that i got from various relatives. that means i should get it, right? even if i think mj is a hack?
I think the sweater is adorable even if it is a MJ (I agree he's a hack) but considering the $ amount of the checks you received you should really just buy this.
Think of it this way, if someone bought you this sweater you wouldn't return it, right? Just get it for yourself.
doveanunu, i can't speak for cc or ally s., but imo a lot of mj stuff (i'm referring to the marc line) is just re-worked vintage with a hefty price tag. anyone with a good eye, and some time could get the same stuff (or better) if they went to a thrift or vintage store. but i do love his shoes.

yeah that's what i mean. in fact i made the exact same complaint about mj last night. lots of designers have retro influences, but in my opinion a lot of marc jacobs stuff doesn't even look reworked, it looks like he lifted it wholesale from designers from whatever decade he decides to emulate. i feel like every time i'm in a thrift store i see shoes that look exactly like mj's - and i don't think i could say that for any other designer.
a hack usually refers to a professional who does second-rate or extremely derivative work. well, there are other meanings, but that is the meaning that i am applying to marc jacobs.

Completely agree that mj is a vintage-copying hack making stuff that looks like what I wore when I was 7 and charging 100x the price. Boo. Bleh. etc. "
i got it! i actually bought it several hours ago but i was waiting to see what the final consensus was. now that mia has given her approval, i can come out of the closet.
i do think it is really awesome and i have wanted it for a while. and i don't have any boobs at all so hopefully it will look ok.
it's so weird, the exact same thing happened to me a few months back. i was walking down the street with my friend, complaining about how all this icky mid-90s stuff like shrugs was coming back...2 minutes later we went into a store and i found an adorable gray shrug that i had to, had to buy.
i think it's the shopping gods teaching me not to shoot my mouth off.
