stupid security tag!!
Permalink Closed

so I went shopping last weekend and bought a cute top from anthro... got it home and picked it up yestedray and the damn security tag is still on it! (yes, I should have checked but I was distracted by the pretty things by the counter)

Anyway, the closest anthro is 2+ hours away, so I'm not going back just for a tag. Its the black kind thats like a half sphere on each side of the shirt. Any clue how to get it off/ or ideas on what other store might be able to take it off for me? Or, so you think I could somehow return/ exchange the shirt by mail?

The thing that takes off those tags are really really strong magnets. Do you know anyone with one? You could call around.
Or you could seam rip into the seam (if it's directly in the seam) and then just stitch back up.
They might also work out an exchange by mail- if you call any store , I'm sure they'll put that shirt on hold for you, and then just switch it out for you when they get yours back.
Ugh i hate when that happens!

I would take it to your local mall, with the recipt, it's likely another retailer there will remove it once you explain.  It happens to us a lot at the Gap.

That's so annoying! Taking it to the mall to try out other stores does seem like the best first option.

I have removed the beige colored long plastic ones using plyers and a screw driver but it was not easy!

I would try to see if a local retailer would do it for you.

This might not work. I used to work in retail management and none of the stores that I worked in would allow us to remove security tags from another retailer with or without a receipt. It's a loss prevention thing and I could have been fired for doing it. Not to mention lots of stores use different kinds of tags.
You could try cutting it with really strong gardening scissors or something. I know I used to find bunches of those tags in pants pockets that thieves had cut. Or you could bite it. I found a few with teeth marks. I don't recommend that tactic, though. smile

It depends which kind it is. If it is one with ink in it you will want to freeze it first so ink doesn't get all over the garmet if you pry it off. I found this online:

Use scissors to pry the two pieces a part a bit then use channel locks to pull the plastic apart. Just be careful not to rip the fabric. Ours came apart with not too much force. Be patient.

and this one:

1. Place article of clothing firmly on floor with rectangular part of security tag facing up.
2. Using the thinnest-headed minus bit screwdriver you can find, place it along the edge of the raised square pyramid and press down hard. This should pierce the plastic where the head is.
3. Repeat Step 2 all the way around the raised square pyramid until it can be completely removed.
4. Remove the silver paper lining so you can see the metal plate beneath it.
5. Using the screwdriver again, lift up one of the metal arms that is holding the pin in place.
6. The pin should slide right through the now free hole and through the back of your clothing. Voila!
