lusting after something overpriced...

ok guys how do you reconcile lusting after an item you KNOW is overpriced?  that won't go on sale either?

last night i was at the coolest paper store buying gift wrap and they had a 'bungalow' that sold clothes and other stuff and everything there was so special and vintagey looking but the whole store was WAY expensive (like a sheet of gift wrap was like $8-$20).  anyway, i'm browsing in the bungalow and that's when i see it...

the most adorable peach clutch w/ beautiful beadwork that would go perfect w/ that flowy fairy looking dress i bought a while back (that one from nordies) but get this...the purse is $215!  it's like the size of an envelope, absolutely darling, but $215!?  AND i'm supposed to be on a shopping hiatus!  so i didn't get it...but i can't stop thinking about it.

what do you think girls?  should i pat myself on the back for resisting or just buy it?  help!

IF you have the money to spend, of course I have to say buy it.
If you dont have the money to spend, then go ahead and just pat yourself in the back
and try not to cry

I would pass on it at least for now.  Try to find your solice in the fact that it is waaaay overpriced and you are a savvy-enough shopper to recongnize it instead of falling for it and being ripped off!  Is there any possible way you might be able to find that brand somewhere else or was it the store's brand?

this is the story of my life. most of the things i *really* want aren't in my budget for various reasons, including being overpriced.  imo i wait a week or 2 and then go visit the bag again. if you still feel the same way about it, and it's in your budget (i.e. purchasing it is not going to result in you eating raman for a week) then maybe you should just get it.  if however you don't feel the same then definitely pass.  i personally always have to look at things twice before buying b/c a lot of times i'll get caught up in the moment/ambiance of the store whatever, and not be able to make a rational decision.

I agree w/ honey that you should wait a couple weeks or a month and then see how you feel about it.

Also, will it match other items in your wardrobe?  Does the color and style complement other tops you have?  If you would only wear it with the flowy dress, I would say no.  However, if you have 4 or 5 items you could wear it with, it might be a reasonalbe purchase.

I would pass on it. $215 is a lot for a little clutch, no matter how beautiful! you'll get over it. I find a lot of times I see something I absolutely adore and then weeks later, I'm like, I'm so over that. I'm glad I didn't shell out all that $$!

plus nowadays, you can find "knockoffs" of virtually anything... especially something like a beaded clutch, since those are so popular now. what did it look like?

oh my gosh, honey--you hit the nail right on the head--this store like took me to another place!  i felt like i was in this calm, serene, beautiful museum or something.  anyway, you're totally right, i'm going to go back and look in about a week.  hope it's still there, though!

Take a deep breath and relax and try not to think of the bag. Sounds like this is one of the infamous impulse buys.

How much wear will you get out of it? Can you wear it with other things? Whats the cost of wear ratio?
