Turning 20 years old next month. Help?
Permalink Closed

I'm now your fashion doll. Dress me up!

I'm turning 20 years old next month (wow ) and in my opinion, I think I look like I'm still 16. What kind of things should I buy thats totally classy (and pretty much clean looking and put together) and sexy? Or even... where do I shop?! There's so many teeny bopper kind of store here in California that its hard to find a place that I really like. I see others who do it so well but I can't do it myself. I Ashley Olsen's style but I don't want to copy it straight out. What are some of your suggestions and pieces? I'm willing to invest in my clothes just so I don't ebay it every month or two.

I'm 5'2; small frame.

Black hair, brown eyes.

I'm on the curvy side but I'm not like Salma Hayak or J.Lo.

I hope you ladies can help me. I'm a fashion retard. Thanks!

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention...

I don't do well with trendy items. Something about everyone else having the same things scare me.

I am a college student; no job so I don't really need any work-related clothing.

Do you have a blazer?

Do you have a pair of good jeans - I mean, well-fitting and smart-looking rather than overly sloppy or casual looking?

I like Theory for non-teenager-y looking clothes. I'd also look into getting a basic pair of smart/business casual-looking pants, Theory does good pants as does Louis Verdad.

i second the idea of a blazer and great jeans. since you're a college student it might make sense to invest in jeans, since you can wear them daily. i would devote a day to just trying on different brands/styles to see what works best for your body.  some popular brands on the forum are:

;;

;

ag jeans, citizen's of humanity, seven, saltworks, & true religion

as far as blazers i would look for something that is well cut fitted blazer in cord or some other fun material/print.  these are cute (ae)

in your post you mentioned ashley olsen. from what i can tell (couldn't find pictures) she kind of has a boho style and does a lot of layering and makes good use of accessories. you can recreate that look yourself without copying it by pairing different pieces together in unusual ways. i.e. put a shorter layer over a longer layer, double up your necklaces.

; this tank comes in a bunch of colors, so you can wear 2 at the same time in different colors

add some jewelry

everthing honey suggested is great.  i found amazing vintage & BN blazers @ a thrift store near my home.  you never know what you'll find, but you just have to look.
