for a wedding?
Permalink Closed

I'm starting new topics all over the place this morning!

Some of you may remember that a few months ago I purchased this Missoni dress:

I have a couple of weddings coming up and I am interested in perhaps wearing this dress. So two questions:

(1) Do you think it is wedding appropriate?

(2) How would you accessorize (shoes, jewelry, etc.)?

I think it could be wedding appropriate, as long as it wasn't a black tie affair of course.

Assuming it'd be a spring-type deal, I'd do long dangly earrings, maybe a bangle, and strappy metallic shoes.

Are the light colored bands in the dress cream or light pink?

pretty dress. I'm thinking it needs a little more structure to dress it up (which I think can be done.)  The tie belt seems like the least structured element.  I'm thinking a wide leather belt would give it a sleeker appearance - maybe in cream, brown, or blue if you could find it.

with a belt I'd maybe do large beads? something to carry through color and textural interest while still being simple.

For footwear, I like the idea of a monochromatic, opaque leg, but that could look casual.  A dressier pump would probably be a better choice (either bare legged or monochromatic with opaque hosiery.)

Don't worry, it's not black tie. smile.gif I think it will be dressier than your average wedding, but definitely not black tie.

The stripes are cream. I was thinking I could look for some dressy strappy sandals. Silver? Cream? Gold? What color do you think would go best?

I like your suggestion of a different belt, D. I will look into that. And I was thinking that I could add some nice bangles and other jewelry like you both suggest to keep it dressy.

I don't know, it looks fairly casual to me...

I'm not sure. If it's a courthouse wedding followed by brunch at a restaurant, or laid-back ceremony in the backyard, it's OK. If it's evening and/or someplace more special, then I don't think so.

Hmmm... It seems a little too work-y for me.

I don't know, for me combining items that are a little more casual with ones that are a little more dressy is fun and unexpected, and you can still be appropriate for the event.

I really like some of those accessory suggestions, Elle! I'm just looking for them at various places to see where I can get the best deal.

When I've tried on this dress, it has felt "cocktail dress" to me and not like something I would wear in a work setting -- but wedding attire is always tricky, which is why it's helpful to hear everyone's input! I would be grateful to hear from others as to whether they think it can be dressed up sufficiently to be appropriate for a semi-formal spring wedding.

I definitely think you could wear this to a wedding. I agree with D on giving it a more structured belt though. I would go simple on accessories though. Stacked varying sized bangle bracelets or a large cuff, a large cocktail ring for shoes I'd do camel or black peep toe pumps. I'd would stick with a classic look since it's Missoni.

That is a BEAUTIFUL piece. That being said, I think it is not quite appropriate for a wedding: too casual. JMO.

I agree w/the other girls - while it's a beautiful dress, IMO it's too casual for a wedding.  Nothing about that dress says wedding to me, even w/dressy accessories.

The dress is great, but I don't think it's appropriate for a wedding at all.

I'm afraid it doesn't say "wedding" to me either. Sorry - it looks like a great dress for so many other things though!

I totally think you could wear it to a wedding. Instead of looking like everyone else in filmy sundresses, you will look fashion-forward but still classic. I love Collette's accessory ideas. I think the low-cut neckline and the drape are more cocktail than work.

I think it could be worn to a wedding. I like the idea of a structured belt, I would skip the tights though and wear very strappy heels. Tights make it more casual.
