can someone tell me the purpose for fingerless gloves?
I would also like to get some leg warmers, preferably cashmere, any thoughts?
Also, I'm 4'11 which is quite petite and I'm in the market for some mid calf to higher boots, any suggestions? I don't want them to eat up my legs, and i already have booties.... pref, dressy no uggs...

I love fingerless gloves. In my office, it is my wrists that tend to get cold. In fact, they often get so cold that it hurts to type. The fingerless gloves keep 'em nice and toasty. I wear them all the time, indoors and out. Plus, I'm a knitter and they are fun to knit, while gloves w/ fingers are a hassle, IMO.
I have to say that I'm not really a big fan of fingerless gloves as a fashion statement although obviously they are great if they are functional as luckylily describes. I like leg warmers, though! As for boots, I can't do pictures at the moment, but there are a ton of great options at piperlime, zappos, overstock, etc. If you do a search of the forum on boots, or even just look through some recent shopping threads, I'm sure you'll see a bunch of great options.
I have fingerless gloves and there are times when they're the most practical. I try not to face my adoring fans in them, though. Something about them takes me back to the 80s, and I can't wear them in public.
Shaft height can be really hard to judge online, so Zappos is a good call since returns are free. Otherwise I would try to look in person to at least try on - if you find something that works you can always try to find a better deal online.
I'm with Suasoria. I wear fingerless gloves at home a lot because my wrists bother me when I work, and they help. But in public, it's finger-ed gloves all the way. And leg warmers...same thing. It's weird but sometimes in warmer months I work in shorts (I mostly work from home) but my calves get cold, so leg warmers help with that. But the last time I wore them in public was probably 1983, and I think (for me) that it should stay that way. :)
