This dress for Thanksgiving dinner? (restaurant, not home)
Permalink Closed

DH and I are spending Thanksgiving with his parents.  Instead of us flying out to meet them, we're meeting up in Philadelphia.  So, no home dinner.  Instead, we're going to a very nice restaurant on top of a Hyatt hotel.  I don't have many wintery dresses.  What do you guys think of this one from Nordstrom?    Do you think I can wear it for a few years?  I don't like buying one season dresses unless they cost less.  (This one is $248, the upper end of my price range).

I'm short, so this would probably not be a mini dress on me.  Would it look too weird if I wore it with black tall boots?  What kind of other shoes would you wear with it?
TIA!

I don't know if it could last you multiple years. It seems awfully trendy to me, with the big sleeves.

I don't know.  I see this more of a going-out dress, or for cocktails at some swanky evening place, not for dinner with the parents.  I would do something more subdued, but that's just me I guess.  I also don't know about the lasting power of the dress; it is unique so it could be worn for years, but then again, I just don't know...

Its a cute dress, but I worry the big sleeves would get in the way when eating.

I actually bought this dress and I think that it will be able to be worn for more than this year.  I think boots would be cute.  I plan on wearing it to a Christmas party with black tights and my CL Mary Janes.

I think I'm getting more of a go-go-girl vibe from it.. not really what you'd want to wear with your man's parents... I think for $248 you could do better!

I agree completely.

 Exactly what I was thinking.

It's a cute dress but not for meeting the parents and I totally agree that those sleeves will get in the way while eating!

I would keep looking. Something more classic. What about like a wrap dress with long sleeves?

Thanks for your input! I was torn between thinking it was really cute and thinking it looked like something an extra from Austin Powers would wear.  That dress wasn't at the mall tonight, so I decided to go with this one, with smaller sleeves.  On me, the dress comes down almost to my knees, so it's not super short.
