not sure if I should have put this under health, but thought it might get more traffic here. the problem is that I'm wearing dress shoes more often now that I got a job and I've noticed that some of my in closed shoes are starting to smell! what can I do? I've never had this problem before, its embarrassing. I can wear tennis with socks all day long and my feet wont smell. . . . . . is there something I can buy?
I used to have this problem a lot more in high school when I had to wear pantyhose every day. I used a foot deodorant by Dr. Scholl's, it helped a lot. The only weird thing was that it made my foot look like I dusted it with white crap (not TOO bad, but I wouldn't walk around barefoot with this stuff on), but by the end of the day it was usually gone. I just sprayed the part of my feet that would be covered by the shoe, anyway
I don't have any suggestions to take care of the stinky shoes after they start being stinky, but I wear those HUE hidden foot liners to avoid the problem. They help, and they stay hidden with most of my shoes.
A side note: HUE recently changed the way these are made, and they suck. They stretch out and fall off my feet now in the shoe. I'm going to write a letter and hope they change it back.
You can buy a spray can in the foot care aisle at most drugstores. I think it's called tinactin foot/shoe deodorant. This works pretty well on shoes that are already stinky.
I second the Hue foot liners with closed toe shoes, I have an arsenal of them and they are great. I get them in the hosiery department at Nordies.
For sandals I just use an absorbing powder like Gold Bond or even J&J Cornstarch on the bottom of my foot and sprinkle a bit in the shoe. It works great. In an extreme situation you could use an unscented deoderant on the bottom of your foot and wipe off a bit of the residue.
