I'm extremely pear-shaped so skinny jeans and pencil skirts are out. Is there any way to incorporate the cute new swing coats, trapeze shirts, etc. into my wardrobe without looking as big as a house? I've always thought you should only do "roomy" on one half of your body and since I gravitate (out of necessity) towards wide-legged pants, a-line skirts, and full skirts, how can I add the new billowy silhouette that's so big this fall?
I'm seeing a lot of silhouettes that are a-line from top to bottom - swing jacket over wide leg trousers. the idea goes against balancing large against fitted, but i think it looks cool if done right. There's several examples in the anthropologie catalogs including a-line dresses/skirts with swing and empire tops (can't post pics) plus some examples from several designer collections below:

Definately agree with D. Ive been seeing a lot of the A-line, trapeze jackets worn with wide-leg trousers or jeans. It would be a cute look with a shorter a-line jacket, a fitted blouse or shirt, and wide-leg trousers or jeans. Also keep in mind that the new shapes are more a-line than voluminous. So I think the shapes that youre used to are whats "in" now anyways.
