Flying with baby- Updated

This coming Thursday we are flying to Ohio and I was wondering if any of you all that's flown with babies have any tips or suggestions.  The plane ride is only about 1 1/2 hours long, so not too long.  And Xzavier doesn't really cry, so I'm expecting him to be good, so no screaming baby the whole time wink.gif  I've heard it's a good idea to nurse them during take off to help with the pressure change, so hopefully I'll be able to manage it so he's hungry then.  But what about when we're landing, won't the pressure bother him then too?  Thanks girls!

Hi FP,
I recently flew transatlantic with my one year old son Mati (10 hrs + another 5 hrs) and I think you won't even feel the short flight. Take-off was the hardest for us because I had to hold him in my arms, and he's too big and wriggly for that! The really small babies I observed during the flight usually had no problem at all. As for landing, Mati did not even feel it, though there was one kid who cried - I am not sure what to tell you about this, but nursing should definitely help both on take-off and landing.
As for what to take with you: a cuddly blanket is a must because these planes do get chilly. If he takes a pacifier, it might be a good idea to take a few with you :)   Other than that, nothing specific comes to mind...
Have a safe flight!

Oh, and I forget: pack a diaper rash cream weighing under 3 oz. I got stuck without mine during the final leg and this is when I suddenly had a desperate need for it :)
BTW, what does he eat? If only breastmilk, I think it's ok, but check the airline regulations for everything else. Security is kind of crazy those days.

Good tip about the diaper rash cream, renee.  I think of those things when it comes to makeup, etc., but might have overlooked baby items.

Does Xzavier take a pacifier?  It's awkward to breast feed when you're taking off and landing, plus you don't know if they'll feel like eating, so using a binkie is a good option if they'll take it (mine wouldn't.  I had to hold it in their mouths so they wouldn't spit it out), plus you don't have to take them out of their baby seat.

Other than that, it should be pretty easy being that it's such a short flight.  Chances are, he'll sleep.

Enjoy your trip and good luck!

At my last circle of friends meeting we were discussing this since it is travel season. Here is the website they recommended for tips.

Ok so I travelled with Jo when she was about 4 months...it was about a 3 hour flight and I went by myself..

Xzavier should be fairly easy to handle since he is still pretty young. Nursing before and during landing definitely helps. If he takes a pacifier that also helps. Maybe bring a soft plush toy along for him to play with during the flight. That's about it. It's really not bad at all, most kids sleep through the entire flight. I know Jola did!
:)

Have a safe trip!

Thanks for the tips girls!  Xzavier didn't make a peep on the plane, he just laid there sucking on his binky all cozied up in his blanket and then went to sleep aww.gif

Here is a picture of him with his new airplane backpack that we bought on the plane as a souvenir of his trip:

I love those chairs. I had never seen one until my sister plopped my niece down recently in hers. I was like "WTF is that?". But it's fantastic! He's a little gorgeous doll!

We seriously have to get at least one ST couple out of all these babies someday!
