removing a turtleneck?

I don't see why a seamstress couldn't figure something out. I imagine you could at least get a boatneck out of them - you wouldn't have a knitted collar as on a regular crew or v-neck, but a boatneck would just require opening it up along the shoulder seam a bit and stitching in a hem around the neck.

Maybe take your least favorite to a tailor and ask them to take a shot at it, and if it comes out OK, have them do the others. (?)

Have you tried double rolling the neck? I used to do that when the high necks bugged me. Or, if it's a mock, just single rolling it.

I wonder if you could sew a ribbed knit piece around the neck and make a crew/boatneck.

I feel your pain - I really can't wear turtlenecks either. I do have one or two cashmere ones that I keep around solely because of their warmth, but they rarely get worn in public!

I agree with taking one to your tailor and talking with them about it. If it's not possible or it doesn't work for you once it's done, I'd just go ahead and sell the others either on ebay or to a consignment place. You'd probably make enough either way to buy a new non-turtleneck sweater (or two) you can actually wear.
