SOme of you may have read my post about finding a pit bull. Well, the owners tracked us down and we gave him back. We have been kind of sad about it, because we had him almost a week and got really attached. My hubby and I had been talking about getting a dog prior to this, but having this one for a while sealed the deal...we knew we wanted one.
We researched breeds, thought we wanted either a weimaraner or a lab. Well, after lots of research we chose a rhodesian ridgeback...
We found a local breeder and the told us that they had already sold all of their pups and weren't expecting to have another litter until spring. However, they had a three year old female that they were trying to find a home for. We went to see her and fell in love! She is coming home tonight!
I am so excited...I've been shopping like crazy.
I do have one question....since she is already 3 years old, is it okay to change her name? They named her Cayenne...and I just don't like that name. Is she too old for a name change? I'll post pics of her tomorrow.....
Congratulations! Ridgebacks are good dogs. I had one, and my aunt has had several. I'm not quite sure on the name change...can you ask the breeders if it wil work?? I think if you use the new name all the time and start giving treats or something when she responds to it, she'll catch on.
Good for you for getting an adult dog! You will save yourself so much trouble. I think you can change the name...my mom adopted a 1 1/2 year old Weimeraner and changed his name w/no problem. My dog has about 5 names now...she adapts.

Changing the name shouldn't be a problem at all. Our dog has had three names and he learned the name we gave him when we adopted him within a couple of days.
