My Parents cat +the litter box=gross question.
Permalink Closed

So last week my parents went out of town and I watched their cats for them.Their one cat always has a body odor ,my prents had even taken her to the vet because of it and he couldn't find a physical reason for it.
Well I discoverd why she smells,I happend to walk into the room where I keep the litter box while their cat was in it there she was rolling around in it...and it wasn't a clean part of the litter either.bleh

My parents and we are now trying to figure out how to stop this behavior.I have searched online but found no real answer. They don't want to scare her off of using the litter box.
I was wondering if any of you girls who have cats have ever come across this problem. They clean the box out every day,so not sure what to do beyond that.
Maybe they should just call her vet.

Ew...that's a toughie. It's weird because cats are usually clean-freaks and can't stand icky smells.

Do the cats share one litter box or do they each have their own?

THat might be the problem if they share. It sounds like a territorial, scent-spreading, indentity issue.

If one vet doesn't give an answer (or does), get at least 2 more opinions.

Maybe you could get one of those crazy automatic litter boxes. I see them on infomercials all the time....after the cat goes to the bathroom and the sensors see that it's left, it automatically rakes the crap out of the box

I second the auto cat box with one reservation. We had one, and also have a large male cat whose, ahem, "business" is remarkably large, and actually broke the litter box after about one week. It may have been a fluke, but I never spent another $!50 to find out.

Thanks girls.
I never thought of an automatic cat box. That might solve the problem.
