Start with the songs you know that you do NOT want played. Get those out of the way (like Who Let the Dogz Out and such).

Do an internet search on billboard top 10; try to find the top 10 for different years. Those will provide popular inspiration.

Look at a programming list for a few oldies radio stations too.

Put some time and innovation into it, and you should come out with a good list.

Take a break from SUPER popular, obvious songs. Guests will find it refreshing.

Our DJ's rule for banned songs is to ask the bride for permission to play a banned song when it is requested by a guest.

Keep in mind that the older family members and friends of the parents will leave early while your friends will stick around much later.

So, I think you can give the dj some insight on the type of music and mood you'd like to create, and then let him know that as it gets later he can play more dancy, fun, loud stuff.

I agree about a list of banned songs. That's what I did, and I am so glad.

we're starting with a list of banned songs too -- FH really hates "brown eyed girl" and "disco inferno," for example.

Banned songs are key - although I think a couple that I put on the don't play list were requested by guests!

We had a time scheme where only jazz was played during dinner - and saved all the good dance music for in between the dinner courses and after dinner to get the party started!
