Wedding date- March 15, 2008

Describe your event- It's going to be a formal evening wedding. We're having the ceremony at the church I grew up in at 7:30. Then the reception will be at my parent's country club with a seated dinner and then dancing. We are trying to keep the guestlist under 240 (because of size restraints of the ballroom... if we even have 241 we have to use an additional room AND they *have* to charge us for 350 no matter what...yeah, slightly annoying).

Your dress- Do be determined...

Wedding party... how many, what are the bridesmaids wearing etc? 6 bridesmaids, 5 groomsmen, 4 ushers, 1 ringbearer. I haven't technically ordered them or seen them on, but these are my favorite bm dresses. We would get them in floor length black silk shantung. I still haven't decided if I want everyone in the exact same dress or some variation but in the same material and color.

Colors- I guess black and peach because I want black bm dresses and really pale peach (and ivory) flowers.

Things you still need to do- I've actually done a ton so far... I've already booked the wedding planner, band, photographer, videographer, church, club, ordered the Save the Dates, reserved the hotel blocks, booked the getaway car (a 1930s Cadillac... too cool for words), booked a trolly to transport the wedding party from the ceremony to the reception (also really cute for pictures) ordered really cute bags for the out of town bags... Whew!
I still need to find something for me to wear, actually see the BM dresses IRL and order them (I'm going to use a wholesaler like NetBride or Pearl's Place since I'm buying them for them and want to get them for as cheap as possible), plan the rehersal dinner, pick out invitations, and all of the stuff that I can't do until closer to the wedding (like planning the logistics of the reception, doing the seating chart, etc), and plan the honeymoon (he wants St. Bart's and I want Mexico).

Any problems or sticky situations yet? My mom and I disagreed on the videographer. I didn't want one at all because I thought it was cheesy and just a waste of $. But she said we wanted one and they company we choose is really good and not too wedding-y. Plus if something funny happens, we can sent it to American's Funniest Home Videos and make the big bucks.

Oh, and my FMIL...
-She doesn't like any of my ideas and tells me so. Like FI and want to see each other before the wedding for pictures because neither of us are very sentimental and since our ceremony is so late, we'd rather get a bulk of the pictures out of the way so we can go on to the reception. She is totally against that.
-She wants me to have her ill behaved niece (who will only be 3) as the flower girl... not going to happen.
-I REFUSE to have a bouquet and garter toss. As a former single girl, I personally dreaded bouquet tosses and I've seen too many garter tosses go vulgar. She says because they're both 'traditional' they should be done.
-She loves the idea of having a slideshow of our baby pictures at the rehersal dinner. I think slide shows are tacky and indulgent... I really don't think any of our guests other than our grandmothers care to look at pictures of us in the bathtub as toddlers.

Other- I'm using a damask theme and here are some of the cute things I've already bought...

Save the Dates... with pale pink envelope liners

OOT bags

And BM gifts.... damask tote/overnight bags. I already bought them because they were on sale for $13.30 last week at Horchow. I also got them fleece blankets with their initials monogrammed on them for $11 each off ebay.

Fun idea!

Wedding date-

June 28, 2008

Describe your event-
The ceremony will be in my hometown at the church where my dad went as a child and most of my family still goes, but we actually almost never went ourselves ("we" being my immediate family). The reception will be at my parents country club, with a cocktail hour outside and then the dinner/dancing inside the main ballroom. The exact times of everything have not been figured out yet, but I'm guessing the ceremony will be at 4:30.

Your dress-
I haven't been able to go shopping yet. But, in a couple weeks I'm finally going!

Wedding party... how many, what are the bridesmaids wearing etc?
My brother is my man of honor (instead of maid of honor), and then there are 5 bridesmaids. Right now I really like this particular shade of blue from J. Crew called "mosaic blue," which is available in two styles. They can pick which one they prefer:

Colors-
The shade of blue above, and maybe peach as the accent.

Things you still need to do-
Pick out my dress, pick out the menu and the cake, get the save the date cards and invitations settled on, officially order the bridesmaid dresses, and find a band. The rehearsal dinner will be all my FH's family, which is a good outlet for their obsessive planning impulses (see "sticky situations" below). But we have already gotten the church, reception location, florist, and photographer lined up.

Any problems or sticky situations yet?
I posted about my FH being a little clueless, but he's being much better now. :)

My future MIL is more of an anticipated sticky situation than a real one yet...she was pretty much excluded from the planning when both of her daughters got married and she still carries resentment/anger over it. I think she was excluded because she can be incredibly difficult and critical. But, she's told me flat-out that this is all between me and my parents and my fiance and that she has nothing to do with the planning, and so far she's really stayed out of it. We want to give her something to do so she feels involved and appreciated, so the rehearsal dinner will be all them (and hopefully it will distract her from ever wanting to be part of the wedding planning).

sfclinevandy, I love that damask theme!
