i've always wanted the dior saddle bag and my boyfriend offered to purchase it for my bday. my concerns are that its really pricy, at $2000, and alot of people have been telling me that its kind of played out. i've never had a messenger bag and i really really like it. what do you ladies think, is it too common? btw, i work for gucci and get a great discount, plus our sale is coming up and i could get bags for pretty cheap.
You know, it's a gorgeous bag. I have a mini one (not leather) that I got in Paris and love, and it would be amazing to have a larger leather one. But I personally I just don't feel like any handbag is worth $2000 (unless you're Victoria Beckham). I think it would be better to get something else with your discount and use the money that you saved to have your boyfriend fly both of you to Paris for the weekend to go to the original Dior store in person.
I think it's gorgeous, but I sort of agree with littlebean. I have a Chloe Paddington and as much as I love it, I don't think it was worth the $1500. But then again, that's not going to stop me from buying ridiculously priced bags in the future either (on my wish list is a Chanel).
So I guess it's a matter of how much you love it! I personally (and I speak from experience), if I were going to spend that kind of money on a handbag, I'd get something more classic, because $2000 is a lot of money for something that might be overplayed. (But I definitely think the bag is gorgeous!)

I have very classic tastes in high end handbags and IMHO,the Dior Saddle is overpriced. I had trouble plunking down $1295 for the YSL Muse and I got my Paddy pre-loved for a lot less than retail. I'd have trouble paying 2k for a bag that was even remotely considered trendy.
I think that your money would be best spent at the Gucci sale or investing in a Chanel/Tod's/Celine/LV with more classic styling.
so everyone agrees its a bit pricey, i forgot to mention that i can get the bag for 30% off retail. is that easier to swallow? should i get the bag if i can get the discount?
my rule of thumb is that if i've obssessed over an item for more than a year it's worth the money. yes, that style of bag has been around for awhile but if it works for you then you should get it.
i'm of the opinion that "classics" differ for everyone. while there are other bags that might be safer investments, if you're never going to use them, then it's still a waste of money.
i almost got that bag in brown last time i was in vegas ! i really like it, but since you work at gucci, you could have your BF get you 3 bags for that price... but it is a gift;
eh, i'm no help at all.

I agree w/ honey on this.
Personally, I think there are cuter bags at that price point, but high end bags are an individual decision. Birthday gifts are made for getting something you might not normally buy yourself!!
