two part question about tailoring costs
Permalink Closed

tulip skirt
I have been stalking this online and it finally went on sale but the smallest size they have is a 4 (I usually wear a 2 in their skirts).  How much do you think it would be to take it in a little if it is too big?

I also just bought a strapless sundress that technically fits but I would like it to be a little more snug.  Anyone know how much it would cost to take it in a little in the bust/waist area?

Most alteration places are comfortable altering within two sizes or so. Taking the skirt in one size should be fine. As far as costs, it depends on where you go. I would call your alterations place and ask them. Depending on the detail needed to take an item, the cost has ranged from 10 dollars to 40 dollars when they restructured a shirt for me.

If the zipper is at the back of the skirt it is usually a lot less expensive to alter as the tailor can take in the sides a bit without removing and replacing the zipper. I have had quite a few dresses taken in from the waist to just below the bust and it is usually about $10 depending on the fabric and whether it is one or two layers. I think I get a great deal though as I found a fabulous seamstress that has a home business.

Since it has side pockets and sailor button waist I think it would be a little harder/more expensive to have altered. Maybe do a store search to try to find it in your size. (And thanks for posting, I may have to convince hubby to let me order it for after baby comes cause I am totally in love with that skirt!).

Agree. THe skirt is rather complex and it could be tricky (ie expensive).
