Bridal Shower Help

I am throwing my roommate from college a bridal shower.  I have never thrown one and she is my first close friend to get married (to where I am in the wedding).  Suggestions?  Can someone help me out so that it will actually be fun and not lame, but also not too expensive (no formal dinner).

Thanks!

Im not sure how much help I will be since Ive never had to throw a bridal shower, but I thought I would throw in a couple ideas.

If its just going to be you girls, maybe do a lingiere party.

For food and drinks, I would do a couple different cocktails, water and other non-alcoholic for those who dont drink. Then you can have a variety of appetizers.

Im sure theres cute games, etc that would help make it fun. Its going to be great just getting together with everyone to celebrate with your friend, no matter what you do!!

It won't just be girls our age.  It will be a lot of the future in laws family.  She is having one for friends in her hometown, but I live in the same town as her fiancee so I am throwing her one there for a few college friends that are still around and the women on his side of the family and then I guess any one who couldn't make the other one.

I just went to a friend's shower last weekend.

It's fun to have a couple "get to know you" games.  Everyone was given a name tag with a famous part of a couple when we came in.  That broke the ice since I didn't know most of the older women there.

We also did a quiz about my friend and her fiance.  Like their first date, where he was from originally, etc.

Another game we did was the toilet paper bride.  I was lucky enough to get dressed up in toilet paper along with some other girls and my friend picked the best outfit.

There were lots of appetizers like mini sandwiches and deviled egg, plus an awesome cake after the games.

I think also having a theme could help - like the theme could be where they are planning on going on their honeymoon or where they are originally from.

I went to one a few years ago, where the theme was ugly bridesmaid dresses ( you may remember this, I found a HIDEOUS teal dress on eBay).  A lot of us got ours off eBay or from Goodwill (a few had some really bad ones on hand, which was sad wink.gif)  This was all a surprise to the bride.  I think we voted for the worst dress, too.  It was a lot of fun!
