I'm starting to look into getting engagement photos taken, and I feel pretty lost. I'm wondering if you girls could help me out.
1. Typically, how much does this cost? What's included in the package? 2. How did you find a photographer? 3. What was the experience like? What were you looking for?
I know that I want more natural/documentary style photos taken, but that's about all I know. I also don't want to spend a fortune.
I haven't taken mine yet (we're doing them in August), but I'm doing it with the photographer we booked for the wedding. In addition to shooting the wedding & reception, we're also having the rehersal dinner photographed and an engagement session. The price of the engagement session really depends on the photographer. Prices for each package can vary a lot... espcially if you want to own the rights to your photos (which we do). Or you could even choose different photographers to do you engagement session and your wedding.
I found my photographer online. The pictures on his website were my favorite compared to other local photographers and I saw he did the wedding of a girl I knew so I contacted her and she raved about him. Then we met with him and I liked him in person too, so we booked him.
For our engagement photos, I also want to do them more natural/less posed. My photographer had a great idea of dressing up in a dress (suit for fiance... we'd rather be dressed up than casual) and taking them in the lobby of a fancy hotel. We're also considering doing them outside because our wedding will be at night and we won't really have a chance to take any outside pictures since it'll be dark.
1. Mine were included in the photography package, but alone they would be $250.
2. I found my photographer through a recommendation of another photographer who had been booked for my date. I loved her website and loved her so its great.
3. I really enjoyed it. I was totally nervous before but it was fun.
I saw many awesome bay area photographers through the knot nor cal board. Lots of girls have amazing photos on their bios.
Jennifer Skog is one of my favorites, but her prices recently went up so I'm not too sure how expensive she is now: http://www.jenniferskogphotography.com/
mine were included in my wedding coverage. if i opted not to get them, i would have gotten a credit towards my album.
i hadn't met my photographers, just talked to them over the phone. they asked a lot of questions as to what FH & I are like, what we like to do, etc. once they determined that, they threw out some suggestions of ideas and places to shoot. we decided on a location and a time and voila! that was that.
usually my photographers try to tell a "story" with their engagement photos. with ours they more did "city shots" b/c thats what kind of people we are.
