A few times I've had trouble selling stuff on eBay - but I kept relisting and trying different approaches. I thought it would be cool to share some tips and tricks about what's worked for you - such as listing time, how many days to have the auction go for, pricing, etc.
- Pricing things really low to start seems to be the best way to attract people to the item. When I've priced things with a ridiculously low starting price I get a lot of watchers and a bidding war eventually ensues.
- Free shipping does not seems to be a motivator
- Having things end at night or on a weekend has had the best success for me
- With 3 and 5 day listings I have fewer watchers drop off - I am wondering if there's a big advantage to using the 7 day listing?
these are obvious things, but a lot of people neglect to do so on their listings.
- include lots of measurements, to the point of being excessive. i've done this for jeans, and have gotten a lot of watchers/bids that way
- if it's a retail non-vintage item, i try to find stock pictures online, and use it as my first gallery pic. i also attach 2-4 more actual pictures of the item. as a buyer, a stock photo seems more appealing to me rather than a poor, shapeless picture of it on a hanger
- have fun with the description. as silly as this sounds, i've made really good sales with items that had interesting/funny descriptions.
*When I list I take consideration of time zones. If you have your listing end past 6-7pm pacific time, a lot of the East coasters would be in bed already. My favorite time to have an ending time was Sunday 10 am PST.
*Pictures! Use lots of good quality large photos. Cell phone pictures, and bad lighting equal waste of time and money. Do not use ebay photo hosting.
*Include all the details of the item. Measurements, material, washing instruction (if it's clothes) condition, etc.
*Let us know terms of sale. How much shipping is, which shipping company you will use, when the package will be shipped.
*Titles are extremely important. Always include size. I prefer XS, S, M, L, XL, 0, 1, etc. instead of spelling it out because that takes more title space and I wish everyone would use this as a standard to make searches easier. I make sure I include brand, particular style name, what the item is, color, size, and condition.
Example of how I'd title this item:
J.Crew yellow Sadie cropped trench coat, S, NWT and if I have room, I would also put small just in case for the people who don't use S for small.
