That diamond replacement policy is as it should be - I wouldn't buy from anywhere that didn't have it! It doesn't have anything to do with their settings being shoddy, and as long as you bring it in regularly to be inspected and cleaned you should be fine anyway. But sometimes things happen, and theoretically you could bend a prong unknowlingly and lose your diamond. Really, it's them saying that they're settings are so strong, they don't mind offering to replace a wayward diamond once in awhile because it almost never happens.

We bought at Shane Company instead of Zales (though they have the same replacement policy). We found them more expensive than necessary and I wasn't hugely impressed with their selection or CS. JMO, of course, since this is a major personal taste decision!

I agree completely with Elle. All reputable diamond vendors should have this policy. FH got my ring at Ross Simons and I believe they have a similar policy. It also doesn't hurt to take out an insurance policy on the ring, just in case, and to cover any loop holes in the store's policy.

I think FH is worried about making a mistake and getting ripped off, and that's where this came from.

My mom and dad have almost always used Zales. Mom has several diamond rings from there and has only had issues with one. She lost the diamond and they replaced it just as they said they would without any hassel. I don't think I spelled hassel right. Hasell? hassell? i think i'm losing my mind.

But Zales has a very good reputation around here.

I personally do not have any experience with Zales, but I did want to share with you about the great experience my husband and I had with bluenile.com

After searching and searching in mall stores and local jewelry stores, I was finding settings that I liked, but no diamonds. So we went to Blue Nile, where you can search by cut, price, carat, etc. They have a great search filter. My husband ended up getting the most for the money as diamonds on the site were about 25-35% less expensive than ones we had looked at in stores. They all come with GIA certificates and are delivered by FedEx. There was also no sales tax, which saved about $350. My husband then got the diamond and took it to a jeweler that had ordered a setting that I picked out.

I know that ordering a diamond off the internet might sound a little sketchy, but the place is totally legit and had great service. After we ordered my diamond, 4 of my husband's fraternity brothers got engaged soon thereafter, and they all got their diamonds from Blue Nile and were happy.

My wedding ring is from Zales. I get better service from Shane Co, which is where my husband bought my e-ring, but Zales had my wedding ring for quite a bit cheaper than SC (same quality).

My mom also swears by Helzberg, and she has some really nice jewelry.

I think zales is a good store. They have there signature zales diamond which is very pretty.

As long as you go with a reputable place and price shop, you should get a good deal and good quality.
