Which color nail polish for a formal event - navy dress
Permalink Closed

Hi everyone!

I decided to wear the first gown I posted about, in navy, to an upcoming formal event this weekend:

http://www.saksfifthavenue.com/include/Zoom.jsp?default_color=MIDNIGHT&PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524446236090&bmUID=iKLAqKm

I will be wearing charcoal grey satin heels and a silver clutch (unless I find a charcoal one asap).  Now I am trying to decide what color nail polish to put on my toes and possibly my hands.  I usually go bare/clear on my hands.  I'm thinking maybe a dark blue or grey on my toes and clear/nude on my hands, or maybe something bold like red on my toes and dark blue on my very short fingernails.  Finally, I could go nude/neutral on toes and dark blue on hands.

Thoughts??

Gorgeous dress! It was my favorite of the ones you posted.

Personally, I'd steer clear of gray and blues on my fingers/toes. Too matchy with the dress and accessories for me. I'd probably go with a purple or burgundy on my toes and clear (or maybe a very soft pink) on my fingers.  But I rarely wear anthing on my fingernails (only toes) so I might be a bit biased.

I like the plums and berries Boots posted. I would go with something like that on toes and bare/clear on fingers.

Yep, deep wine/plums would be great! Or moca!
Also, traditionally - cream/peach/pale pink...but since it's mid November - deep colors are more appropriate! Please make a pic to show us - gorgeous dress!

I'm more conservative so I'd go with nudes/beiges.

This is exactly what I am going to do - thanks Boots!  Definitely don't want to be matchy - hate that!!

So glad that's resolved (I'm so not good at figuring out nail polish).  And thanks to everyone else for your comments also - all were very helpful!

I agree with Boots, don't get to matchy matchy. Do a contrasting color. Deep red or purple would look great. I also thinkyou should stick with the silver clutch. No need to find a different on to match it to the color of your shoes.

I would choose a gunmetal grey to match the shoes. Have you ever worn a dark nail polish before? You can do one that doesn't have sparkle and I think it would look good.

Thanks everyone!  I love all of the ideas.  Yana - if it were summer I would have chosen the coral idea.  Love the combination of coral with navy and didn't think of it.  If I ever wear this dress in the summer I'll remember that.  And Little Red - I appreciate what you said about the silver clutch (and that's what I have to do anyway as I don't have anything else).  Makes sense!
