I read a few stories today about something Isaiah Washington said backstage at the Golden Globes after Grey's Anatomy won Best Drama. This story sums it up:

Hearing costar Isaiah Washington call him a ''faggot'' on the set of Grey's Anatomy gave T.R. Knight (pictured) the courage to come out publicly, Knight says in an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, set to air today on her talk show. At the Golden Globes on Monday night, during an interview in the press room after Grey's won Best Drama TV Series, Washington publicly denied ever using the homophobic slur by saying, ''No, I did not call T.R. a faggot.'' Costar Katherine Heigl responded by telling Access Hollywood that she is ''not OK with'' Washington's comments and calling them ''hurtful.''
Knight tells DeGeneres something changed inside of him when he heard Washington use the slur during an argument with costar Patrick Dempsey, and says he really doesn't know what to say about Washington's denial at the Globes.

Apparently, Washington called T.R. Knight a "f*ggot" behind his back during that on-set fight back in in the fall, but Knight overheard it.
I am pretty surprized and disappointed Isaiah Washington hasn't been reprimanded, at the least, for this, and then to have Knight confirm for the first time that this really happened, and another cast member to say she's not okay with it, it just makes me more disappointed. This just makes it look like the show creators and the network are okay with one cast member making another feel uncomfortable and discriminated against. It's sexual harassment.
I think it's completely ridiculous that a show that prides itself on its diversity would allow for someone to say that about another cast member and not get reprimanded for it. If anyone had made a racist slur about Isaiah Washington, that person's character would have been killed off immediately. It seems weird that they'd let him get away with saying that without any repercussions.

ITA. I'm going through a real life issue very similar & I'm so beyond pissed I can barely see straight....

ITA too. I don't understand why he can get away with saying that AND causing a fist-fight. If someone made a racial slur, they'd be fired immediately. It's totally ridiculous.
I didn't see that backstage interview at the Globes but did anyone else see that Isaiah Washington told a reporter on the red carpet something like "I love gay, I wish I were gay?" It seems really bizarre that he would make that kind of joke, especially when his costars are confirming that he really did use the slur and he is denying it.
What he said was completely unacceptable but who's to say he didn't get reprimanded for it? I highly doubt anyone on ANY show would get killed off for a racial slur, that's just silly. GA wouldn't work with out Dr. Burk and I bet TR would agree.
Who ever is doing the press for these people needs to be fired. Especially the person doing the press for Washington, he should have issued a public apology long ago. Moreover a cast for a show should never be allowed to go on TV and air their dirty laundry with out it being controlled.
It just seems silly and high school to me at this point. GA is my FAVORITE show but I just want to yell at them all to grow up!
Well, they could always re-cast the role. It happens all the time on soap operas, for instance. They just bring someone else on. Or in the Harry Potter movies, they've had two actors to play Dumbledore; Alec Baldwin was replaced with Harrison Ford in the Jack Ryan movies.
I love Grey's too, and I love the way Washington has portrayed Burke, but this whole thing really sours me against him and the show. It just seems like what he said is being totally tolerated, by the way he spoke backstage to the fact that two of his co-stars are now publicly speaking out against him. If the show is reprimanding him, someone should say so. This is more than high school behavior -- it's very real intolerance and violence. People still get assaulted and even killed over racial or sexual issues.
He isn't going to get fired. Actors have a union and they have to go through a long drawn out process to even reprimand them in a lot of instances. I assume the whole cast will get a talking to and it will end.

The heated controversy at ABC's top show, "Grey's Anatomy," boiled over Thursday as the network rebuked co-star Isaiah Washington for an anti-gay comment and Washington issued a lengthy apology.
"We are greatly dismayed that Mr. Washington chose to use such inappropriate language at the Golden Globes, language that he himself deemed `unfortunate' in his previous public apology," the network said in a statement.
"His actions are unacceptable and are being addressed," the statement conclude.
During a backstage interview Monday at the Globes gala, Washington denied involvement in a heated on-set incident in October during which an anti-gay remark was reportedly uttered.
"No, I did not call (co-star) T.R. (Knight) a faggot," Washington told reporters. "Never happened, never happened."
In his apology Thursday, Washington acknowledged "repeating the word Monday night."
"I apologize to T.R., my colleagues, the fans of the show and especially the lesbian and gay community for using a word that is unacceptable in any context or circumstance. I marred what should have been a perfect night for everyone who works on `Grey's Anatomy.' I can neither defend nor explain my behavior. I can also no longer deny to myself that there are issues I obviously need to examine within my own soul, and I've asked for help."
ABC said in its statement it has "a longstanding policy to maintain respectful workplaces" for its employees, adding that the network had "dealt with the original situation in October, and thought the issue resolved."
Thursday's events followed a critical statement Wednesday from the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation. Neil Giuliano, GLAAD president, said he had contacted Washington's representatives in hopes of meeting the actor to discuss "the destructive impact of these kinds of anti-gay slurs."
"Washington's repeated use of it on-set and in the media is simply inexcusable," Giuliano said in the statement.
Washington said on Thursday that he welcomes the chance to meet with gay and lesbian community leaders "to apologize in person and to talk about what I can do to heal the wounds I've opened."
"I know a mere apology will not end this, and I intend to let my future actions prove my sincerity," Washington said.
Knight, who said soon after the October fracas that he is gay, appeared in Tuesday's taping of "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" to discuss the original incident and Washington's recent comments.
"He referred to me as a faggot," Knight said of the October incident. "Everyone heard it."
"Grey's Anatomy," now in its third season, won the Golden Globe for best television drama. It regularly finishes atop or near the top of the Nielsen rankings.
