i've discovered that apple is selling refurbished, older model ipods on their refurb site. they're certified to work and have a limited warranty that can be extended for 2 years for $59.

i can't get the 60GB video ipod out of my mind. if anyone has it, i'd appreciate any feedback/opinions.

I have the 60GB ipod.  I love it for the gym.  The ellipticals have attached tvs but the treadmills don't so when I run I just watch a show on my little screen but its really not that bad and it makes the time fly by.  And of course its also great for music.  I got mine at Costco because of the awesome return policy but have had no problems with it so far!

Around christmas a lot of people on the disney boards I go to were buying the shuffles for $29.  I haven't heard any complaints about them not working or breaking fast/easily so maybe that will help in your decision.
